cold start problems.

hi guys i have not been on here for a while due to being out the country for a few years. so glad to be back. :-)

my escort has been parked up off road for some time as im now back in uk its time to get it sorted out.

just wanted to ask a few questions.

im finding it very hard to get the car to start when cold and tick over straight away. it will start but run very lumpy & keeps stalling. if i use any accelerator it makes matters even worse and will always stall when trying to use any gas.

after about 10 mins of keep starting and stalling it will tick over and i can use accelerator ok.

anyone have any ideas?

what spec? Is it aftermarket management?

hi jc

yes its running megasquirt aftermarket management.

get some fresh fuel in it for a start, change the oil, oil filter & fuel filter then try it again. :)

yeah thats what i plan to do once this darn snows gone. not sure how easy it is to drain the fuel through?

anyone on here good with megasquirt managment?

just wondering if theres any cold start settings in megasquirt if so would this maybe cause irratic starting when cold if wrong values in managment settings ?

anyone here in west midlands whos good with megasquirt? i really think my cold start problems maybe due to wrong values in my cold start settings in the megasquirt ecu

just a update guys.

i removed all the gold fuel it was urine colour so i gather it was stail fuel. as new fuel is a clear colour.

i removed the fuel by taking the pipe off the fuel regulator and kept turning ignition on and off.

i replaced with new fuel now the car refuses to start? the pump seems ok as i can hear it prime and then turn off.

i took out plugs and dryed them cleaned and refitted them, the car tryed to start but just will not fire.

im stumped as it did run eventully on the old fuel. and now wont start at all with new fuel in?

It needs mapping.

hi stu the car has already been mapped.

i done a service on it today and it fired up and now runs perfectly

new plugs

new fuel filter

new oil.

new oil filter

only thing i did notice is that theres white smoke out of exhaust. this might be down to condensation due to the car being stood for over a year. i only left the car running for about 10 mins.
