Bex
ur doin well but the underside of that car.....is a fcukin state man. how does it even get that bad under there It actually looks a lot worse in the pics than it is, most of what you see is simply surface rust, and it gets that way from being 14years old, having done 121k miles, never being undersealed... and being a ford escort lol. there are no holes in the floor and it is surprisingly solid Edited May 13, 2013 by Bex
tomsy
Really enjoying your updates nice to see an escort getting so much attention to keep her on the road, far to many people are willing to scrap a car thats been totally reliable because of a bit of rot keep up the good work
sidrick
I wouldn't both repairing my car if it looked like that underneath and it's 22, so massive fair play for putting in the time and money to keep this one on the road. Good to see pics of the process as well as most don't manage to snap those.
Bex
Thanks Tomsy. Sid... different strokes for different folks. For the money this is costing me (bearing in mind its through my work so I get it cheaper and I have been able to do bits and bobs myself), I could go out and buy another old car.. then have to spend on servicing, repairs, new timing belt etc and possibly have a worse car in many ways.. or I can go with one I have had for 5 years, know inside out, know exactly whats been done and when... I think as crazy as some people think I am.. I'm possibly doing the right thing. I can't get finance, I can't afford a new car etc. anyway another wee update from today.. new legs welded on
tomsy
What you just said in your last post was absolutely spot on you know the car inside out and as the saying goes better the devil you know, think we've all changed our cars in the past and thought i wish i had my old car back. Bex
Well time for an update, I didn't get chance to get pics of the sills being fitted but we finally got to the waxoiling and undersealing today. Waxoiled from inside out and undersealed from outside in... hopefully should keep the metalworm away. I spent about 3 hours last night treating the underside of the car with Kurust on anywhere there was a hint of surface rust. this was taken at the midway point. Today was the day we filled her crevices with waxoil and undersealed her.

Bex
gna waxoil mine after the winter. my shells mint so i wanna keep it that way! we decided to waxoil inside the parts like the legs and sills etc because the waxoil never drys and will keep them good inside, then use underseal on the underside of the car as it is more durable and lasts longer, plus its a lot less messy if they need to change anything in the future. lee grout
Isnt it amazing how different it looks after a layer of underseal/paint etc. Good job, hope it keeps the rust at bay and lets you get on with other bits now.
