Restoration time..

Recommended Posts

Well this years MOT was always gonna be a biggy and as my boss & workmates have stated it is now a labour of love and a restoration... I'll update this as we go along.

I started by stripping out the interior a couple of days ago (as much as I could), As someone who has never attempted this before I did ok, but my center console was a challenge lol, then I handed it over to the professionals today.

I have owned the car for 5 years now, she has been incredibly reliable and has seen me through some tought times in life. We have been to hell at the hands of others and helped back from the brink by good friends and extream TLC.

She has taken care of me as I have her and at 14years old with 121k on her it is now time for some hardcore heavy metal.

so.. she is getting full sills, welding to a small hole in the passenger footwell, new rear chassis legs (both sides), an unexpected hole in the boot welded (put my foot thru it when trying to get my rear seats out LOL). Thats the biggest parts other than that its a wheel bearing, a couple of D-Bushes, handbrake adjustment and a rocker cover gasket.

Anyway enough waffle.. here's some pics.

I'll be following this! Doesn't look too good though :(

Silly sausage, it looks good :) everything else is looking good aside from the things listed and metal around those areas is cleaning up ok. Positive attitude mr :)

Looking forward to getting her undersealed aswell.

Its bad that it needs that much doing......but from our point of view it's great. Keep plenty of pics coming, hope you don't find any other surprises :thumb:

Yeah it's a big job, but Im actually enjoying being able to help and getting a look at her properly knowing the rest of her is ok and it's worth it (in my view at least lol).

Very lucky I work in the trade & have a good boss and workmates cos I wouldn't be able to do it otherwise.

Yeah way too many of these cars getting broken up for quite insignificant reasons really. I have had to do some shopping about for parts and being in the trade and having a good relationship with the parts places we use at work has been a huge help and push to keep at it with the old girl.

LOL Hezz... that wheel well..

The boys didn't have much time to work on her on Friday cos we were swamped but this is the new wheel well tacked in place. :)

Well I'm gonna be in my work grinding metal tomorrow... bring it on :D

good to see someone who still thinks escorts ate.worth saving! most wldve scrapped her off. good on ya!

I think if it was someone who wasn't lucky enough to work in a garage like I do or able to do the work themselves then for many I can see why it would be easier to just scrap it... but I have blue ovals in my blood and as much as she is just "an old escort" in many peoples eyes... to me she has a lot of heart.. and Im an old softy really (but dont tell anyone) ;)
