After walking round The Leas in Folkestone on 25/08/13 at the Old-timer Rally the missus agreed that it would be nice to have a car that we can keep for life

In September 2011 My Fiancee had an accident in her Corsa B 60/70mph impact into a station scaffolding lorry that had run out of fuel on the A20 Dover

She had no serious injuries just a few cuts and bruises

A few weeks later got her driving again and then went out and bought a nice looking N.Reg 1996 Escort 1.4 Lx In Aubergine with Aztec Alloys :/ did not like those wheels, so they where swiftly replaced for 16" Mondeo Alloys.

At the first Christmas we had her we had to replace the drives front hub assembly which because of the time of year ended up being new parts at a cost of around £200-£250 including fitting.

Her First MOT was great sailed through with a few minors being brake pads discs track rod end dust cover and ball joint dust cover and wishbone bearing which i got done at a cost of no more than £50 due to having a friend who worked at Ford and did the wishbones and track rod and ball joint.

Then Christmas this Year the differential went in the gearbox. After searching many scrap yards and purchasing two incorrect boxes it had to be reconditioned at a price of £300 including clutch plus £90 fitting as my local garage had removed the box thinking that i was coming back with a s/h unit.

Now this year 2 things have happened. She has developed a rattle at 4000 rpm which dies off at 4500 rpm . My mechanic tells me that this is coming from the gearbox side of the engine but would need to investigate. To me the noise is like a pulley rattle but they are certain that it is not a pulley

The second thing during a storm this summer i drove the front end of the car into a massive puddle over the headlights that i didn't see until it was too late hydro-locking the engine and getting my feet wet and ruining the hawk remote central locking alarm, Once the car was home the plugs where removed engine cranked to remove water and new plugs installed but still had a little idle problem hunting between 950-1000rpm

I then replaced the MAF which ford tell me is not a MAF which improved for 5 min then replaced the spark plugs again as the ends had gone white which did improve the drive but now the idle problem is back, now planning to clean the icv. It also smells off emissions from the rear so possibly lambda sensor as i remember water coming out of the back box

Plans now are to get the Engine reconditioned, get the car resprayed the same colour and change the interior as it is beige and think black will suit the Aubergine better than the beige and change the 16" Mondeo alloys for 15" ones as the ride can be quite had. Maybe the suspension needs replacing?

I'm also having a problem with my Stealth shelf which keeps dropping down as the back seat keep pushing it back which is breaking the parcel shelf supports

Also now both bumpers have been replaced. Front is now fogged not currently wired up

Will update when i've done any other work

So at the moment we are trying to fine why it is hunting a tiny bit on idle but when maf is disconnected it runs fine. Have had the iscv out and cleaned it still the issue persists have also changed plugs and leads and maf also cleaned maf. Also seem the emissions are bad as it stinks out of the rear it has had Redex, Dry fuel (due to the flooding/Puddle) and now Cataclean

Can anyone help?
