ShellyGTi
We own the gti sleeman is on about, it was not the easyest to do because we kept the aircon we had to make a new way to tension the belt. The spec of it is,Toyo sports manifoldModded gti inlet manifoldVvt locked off and setGti sump and windage plate2ltr Deep ecuZetec flywheel and rs turbo clutch with ib5 release bearingIt was dyno'd @ 164.9 bhp (dyno dynamics)Is currently got a blown head gasket and has been sitting in the garage since last ford fair, waiting to receive an lsd and gsxr throttle bodies. Good luck with your conversion.
Mex
We own the gti sleeman is on about, it was not the easyest to do because we kept the aircon we had to make a new way to tension the belt. I have the aircon on my Finesse. I had to cut the larger air con pipe and use two compression fittings to route it around the Direnza manifold I have. My mechanic got a load of different belts I tried them until we found one the right lenth, there was no need to mess with the tensioner. Gti sump and windage plate Am I the only one who's got a blacktop with it's own sump in an Escort?
ShellyGTi
I did this conversion about 5yrs ago, how did you route the belt as the waterpump spins the opposite direction and uses the flat side of the belt to drive it?
ShellyGTi
Here is what I made up.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/Matty872/Escort%20Gti/DSC_0005.jpg
Mad Mexico
I don't have aircon to worry about, won't even powersteering lol, have a non power steering rack to go in so it's literally bare minimum to worry about. Thanks for all the little tips guys, really appreciate all the advice
Hezz
I'd love to pop a st170 engine in my gti. I think it would transform it
SLEEMAN
ST170 doesn't have forged pistons. The issue with this conversion is the management. You won't get good results if you try and run this engine on normal 2.0 zetec management. Using the ST170 management is a challenging job. Personally I'd use aftermarket stuff and get someone experienced to tune it. A much more stress free solution albeit more expensive. Add some throttle bodies and a decent exhaust system and you should be knocking on 200bhp. my mistake stu done my research the pistons are cast aluminium and the con rods are forged steel. sorry about that but still good to know for everyone though
Mad Mexico
Picked it up now, goes really well. Seems like it's got more go than my fez seeing as they can usually loose power over the years. Does sound like it's got abit of a rattle though. Thought it might be the clutch release bearing but it doesn't stop with the clutch down. Does the vvt rattle on these engines, I remember talking to someone with an s14 and they said they start to produce a vvt rattle from the sr20det lumps. If so would a vvt delete solve this? SLEEMAN
the vvt on the st170 lump is only for the inlet, I haven't heard of any rattle on the vvt on them. but people that use the engines for rwd use the vvt delete kit because they want to run better power some say the vtt loses torque in the rev range, and a reprofiled cam and delete kit solves it
Mad Mexico
Ah right, maybe I need to do some investigating with that rattle then.
bongo
All this hassle just drop a 2.3 in it, 170-180bhp with torque to match, running standard rs ecu aswell.
scottybo
All this hassle just drop a 2.3 in it, 170-180bhp with torque to match, running standard rs ecu aswell. i thought you megasquirted it? dont you need to run a 2.3 on 99 octane though due to the compression? bongo
Not yet scottybo, it's running fine on standard ecu with 3.5 bar escos fpr, getting cams soon then possibly itbs, then I'll need to fit it.
Mad Mexico
Don't you need to fit a rs subframe to fit the l4 lump and mtx?I've now flogged a few parts to make its money back on the focus, few more bits to go then it time to pull the engine and box out and decide from there. So if there is any parts people need, just let me know. Edited July 6, 2015 by Mad Mexico
