UPDATE:

Ok well not really an update as car is in storage at the yard at work for 2 or 3 months whilst I get a bigger driveway made for it at my new house ive just moved to, but it has gave me good thinking time in which direction im wanting to go with it now. Ok so plan I have coming together now is:

Coilovers,

Mondeo alloys refurbed and back on,

2.0 zetec conversion which I hope to get running on gsxr throttle bodies,

Exhaust system to suit,

Converted to central locking and electric windows for convenience,

Full matte or satin gun metal vinyl wrap,

Various smoothing to take place around the car,

New rear arches,

Either rs2k or st170 brakes upfront and same on the back,

Everything underneath either painted or undersealed.

All of which I hope to achieve with not spending mega money to be honest after researching and looking into approximate costs of everything etc with being careful in what I buy, ebay/scrapyard bargains etc and obviously all of the work carried out by myself anyway so labour would be free and borrowing things like my mates welder and engine crane etc that I dont have as and when needed. Obviously with projects things may change but im pretty confident all of it can be achieved within my new deadline of FordFair 2015 as this year just isnt going to happen with my new recent house move.

Cheers all :)

*Forgot to add in a smoothed GTi front bumper and the rs accessory skirts ive got for it too :)

Update:

Another update for you guys, not as often as some but will be updating this thread steadily as I go along for ya now as ive only just got the escort back again after being put into storage at work whilst I had the second drive made for it at home, so work can proceed :thumb:

So have recently started trying to sort out the engine side of things for the old girl while I wait for time and weather to start with the exterior work.

Have bought myself a 2.0l zetec silvertop for it that I have setup in my shed on my new handy engine stand I bought for it, as the plan is to strip it down and rebuild it for reliability and also as id like to inspect the internals to assess the condition of the engine better before fitting and replace parts as required. So some pics...

My new engine stand setup ready for it:

As I got the engine delivered and wrestled into the shed where it will live for awhile:

Setup on the stand ready for its strip down, stripped some off already as was eager to get on:

And thats where its at for now, got a new QH clutch kit on the way for when it goes in too that I just ordered :)

Update:

Got abit more done with the car this week. Stripped the engine down further for more inspection. Pleased so far with the condition of the engine, all seems to be in very good nick so far, no excessive wear on the bores or cams etc, just nice clean honing marks in the bores still etc. Seems as though it was passing abit of oil into the combustion chamber from a couple of the valve seals though, possibly rings? hard to tell as looked abit moist with oil in cylinder 2 , but not a problem as will replace these as a precaution I think :) any thoughts on this??

Also got my new QH clutch through, red accuspark leads and replacement rear light for the one on the car that got smashed in storage after a little accident.

Some pics.

As the engine stands now:

I has a 2.0 with 131k which still had the honing marks, replaced all seals in the head so it must have been the rings as it was using a litre of oil every month.

Yeah I think I may well end up putting a new set of rings in anyway as a precaution as it would really annoy me if it was smoky after putting it all back together

Update:

Well not much of an update but how the old girl stands now, sorted out me shed as well to give myself more room for the engine rebuild and gave her a good wash before being covered up before 'surgery' commences to try and keep anymore weather at bay :)

Also stripped the engine down some more. Overall very good condition should be a simple rebuild hopefully. Got the pistons out and shells to take some measurements for the necessary parts to be ordered:

Update:

After work today thought id crack on with the old girl abit more whilst im waiting on some engine parts and trying to accumulate various items for that side of things thought id start on the strip down for the rear end refurb.

So first up was to remove the exhaust system and heatshields:

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1468_zpsazqdcjby.jpg

Then I moved onto removing the rear axle and parking brake cables, hoses etc. Ended up having to cut through the front handbrake cable due to the 10mm nut internally being cross threaded onto the adjuster rod, so will have to replace that but oh well:

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1471_zpsmxaa3mlz.jpg

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1477_zps5vific78.jpg

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1476_zpsghvuicmr.jpg

Rear struts off too so these can be refurbished aswell:

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1479_zps3i0l2tyf.jpg

Can see up close now the corrosion to the rear chassis legs now, definitely some work to be done here as expected:

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1478_zpsfanlxepx.jpg

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1480_zpswbi8k6gg.jpg

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1481_zpsu4qt4nfs.jpg

Whilst I was under it the fuel tank, and filler neck was removed too for cleaning up and painting:

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1482_zpszwnqzxe3.jpg

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1483_zpscy18vzut.jpg

I then called it a night and left it as that for now, as it stands:

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u500/aaron-leggett/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC_1484_zps4ya5hitv.jpg

Plenty more work to be done, but feel as though im progressing with it now :)

One question if anyone knows who's reading this, whilst the tanks out, when a 2 litre conversion is done from a 1.4 cvh is it worth putting a 1.6/1.8 fuel pump into it instead? Or is this not needed? Thanks
