chrisxn
I was just looking around on the police website, and found a question on whether its illegal to drive a car with a broken speedo. Ourrrr Suuurrvaayyyy saaaaaaaayyysssss........ UUHH UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Yeah, apparently its illegal to drive a car that has a speedo in less than good working order, which I assume will include the wobbly ones (lke mine ) The only exemption of this is if the fault develops on that particular journey, but it must be rectified before the next journey is taken. Just thought I'd share that as I know alot of people have this problem! And I love bursting peoples bubbles. Its my thing

Craig855S
Chris whats with the avatar? Are you an advanced motorist? Matty i think they would call your car illegal, does it happen every time or just sometimes? may be a lose connection that rears its head when the nose of the car drops under braking
EssexMikeSi
Mine wobbles at around 30mph, looks stupid and reminds u your driving an old car lol. Every mk6 ive had has done it at some point in time.
geordie_aaron
how would they prove it?? you get pulled so you stop....not using your speedo.get followed......can see your dash only way they'd get a hint it's not working is if you told them it wasn't
meekstaaa
Every cable driven speedo ford i've driven has wobbled
massivewangers
I didn't think a speedo was even a legal requirement. You don't need one for the MOT anyway. I've been stopped and I told him it wasn't working and he didn't say anything about it.

chrisxn
Chris whats with the avatar? Are you an advanced motorist? At the minute I'm an associate member of the IAM, but I'm takin the course and in 3months tops I'll be an advanced driver First observed session on Tuesday! Cant wait! But yeah, I didnt think it was a requirement either, partly because so many people on here post with having problems with the speedo! But I was on This Website and This Page and there it is. But, as geordie_aaron said, They couldnt prove it unless they drove your car and saw it themselves, or drove alongside you close enough to see it! Lol, just a little extreme me thinks!!! I had a mate get pulled because his dash bulbs had gone and couldnt see what speed he was doing. Hence he was pulled doing 15mph in a 30 lol!! he was told to get it rectified ASAP else if they saw him again they would pull him and fine him (or something like that) My manta has a wobbly speedo, but thats an old car so ...... MEH.
Carl160180
Wobble speedo's are easily sorted by fitting a new speedo cable I've heard before that it is an offence to drive with a inop speedo, not sure if a wobbly speedo would count tho, it's still reading a rough speed that your doing and with most of our escorts having big wheels the speedo will be out anyway LOL
