JC
Have you tried plugging it into another PC?
eetaylog
sounds like the table section of the hdd is fubared. you wont lose your stuff if this is the case though, you can either a) repair the disc with some recovery software, or.. b) if youre handy with a screwdriver you can slave the disc and drag everything off, then format it. caled
As above, take it apart and use it as an internal slave drive. Sounds like the HDD is on its way out - do you travel around with it a lot? - or the USB controller is knackered.
dutchkev
dont travel no but it was dropped from a height (2 foot) so i think that did it tried it on another comp john, does the same can you reccomend a good recovery programme bud? with regards to taking it appart, im not very technically minded when it comes to PC's etc so making it a slave drive is a no-no, unless someone can help! dutchkev
UPDATE ive managed to get the important thing off the HDD now (had to drag it off in 100mb sections) and deleted all the other stuff off the HDD, and when i turned the HDD on and connect to the comp, it says i need to format the drive before i can use it, so i ask to format in NTFS (default) and it just freezes and wont resopnd. i know a format takes a while but how long roughly on a 500gb HDD? also its a media center that plugs into the tv, will i loose this function now? Cut your losses and buy a new one. Edited August 6, 2009 by Escort_2f2f

smithyandco
Warrenty is usually void by:* Water damage* Cosmetic damage* Opening the HDD casing (or in your case even the caddy)* Shock in excess of 350Gs (Aka... Dropping it)
