Lock barrel is FUBAR

Nope mine isn't central locking as standard, it's an Encore...

ok guys mine is central locking. do i just get the kit from the ebay link then fit it? or will i need it done by a pro

you'll only require the kit without solonoids, then its a simple task of splicing the kits signal wires into the OEM central locking modules signal wires.

sounds more dramatic than it is tbh.

I even find a aftermarket kit preferable to those god awful ugly OEM IR setups that came in the higher spec scorts

the link is the one I used, havnt had a single issue with it since fitting it

ebay clicky

to someone with little experiance or is a little aphrensive these things are a nightmare

just unraveling the wires will cause heart failure :innocent:

you realy need to be competent around cars to fit these IMHO

its simple even to a novice with a basic understanding of electrics...... if you struggled yourself then Im guessing you lacked the latter :thumb:

I made a judgement on your previous statement regarding your perplextion at what I know to be a simple task then stated clearly (as shown above) that a could only sumerize the reason for your perplexed state.........

now be a good boy and hop off your soap box :thumb:

oh joy.

so now i need to drill your doors to fit the solenoids then run the wires through the door and find all wires needs....

shaw got a heads up to whats needed?

with Liams its a straight forward job (with it being a non-central locking setup straight off the bat), You'll be starting with a clean slate so wont have to tangle with any of the cars existing looms and wont have to splice into a OEM C/L modules loom(which is whats required if your adding a aftermarket remote system to an existing OEM central locking setup).

what you'll likely discover quickly is that these kits are commonly designed for solid rod door mechanisms rather than the cable versions found in mk5's and mk6's, now there is a adapter kit that can be bought that allows for cable mechanisms but in the case of a escort its wholely unecessary.

before you start firing holes willy nilly for the solonoids first locate the plastic lever arm on the actual latch mechanism that is moved when the lock barrel is turned (this can be a pain due to ford adding anti-theft sheilding to the entire mechanism), that lever arm is basically what you'll be wanting your solonoid to move so you'll need to take one of the rods that comes with the kit and hook it into the arm, that done it'll hang down out of the mechanism and you can then judge where you need to fasten the solonoid to so as to be able to loop the other end of the rod into the solonoid eye.

NB: its often easier to unbolt the entire locking latch and let it drop down into the door cavity so you can get a better veiw of what your doing before bolting it back in place with rod fitted.

beyond that your simply following the wiring instructions that come with the kit, When it comes to wiring up the 12v+ live feed to the receiver unit I personaly prefere to take the feed from one of the main 12v feeds that supply the fusebox but aslong as its wired to a permenant live I dont suppose it matters to much :thumb:

Kit came this morning and holy crap how many wires!!

Phoned a local auto electrician to see how much it woul be to save me and Aaron (mostly Aaron) the hassle...and he said because it's a cable locking system it takes hours and you're forever adjusting it so wanted £200.... no thanks!

like I said........ mine is a cable system (as per all escorts) and my solonoids are directly linked to the latch arm as appose to connecting the cable.

dont be alarmed by the amount of wires, it looks more complicated than it is and they should be clearly colour coded and listed in the destructions that come with it, if your not very spark savvy then it'll look a bit disconcerting but if you take your time and lay it out on the floor as it would be in the car you can quickly cut through the trees to see the wood :thumb:

[Liam car understand mode]instead of having the latch>cable>solenoid.....connect the solenoid>latch[/Liam car understand mode]

been YEAAAAARS since i took a full escort interior/carpet out haha let the trim snapping commence

:pancake: "[Liam understand mode]" :pancake:

obviously a 5drs gonna be a pain due to needing to take 4 door panels off instead of 2, then your gonna have to root the rear doors wiring down the side kick panels.... I cursed having to tangle with two of those soddin door rubber tubes let along 4.

would Liam not be happy with just having the fronts on remote and only unlocking the rears when required?, would cut down on the amount of hassle and trim you'll have to fight with :thumb:
