Hi,

I owned an escort for 10 years which was a 1996 GTI 1.6. Yes, a 1.6 GTI. It was released in the Ford Thames Valley area as a limited edition before the 1.8 GTi's were mass released all over. Over the rest of the country it was released as a Cabaret, but mine was the GTI. It had GTI badges on the boot and on both front wings behind the front wheels. It had material seats but a leather steering wheel, full alloys and colour coded bumpers. The logbook said GTI and I even had a promotional flyer about the car which also said Thames Valley Area Ford Escort GTI 1996. Even when I insured the car it came up as a 1996 1.6 GTI.

Now, why am I going on about this? well I'll tell you. I'm being told in no uncertain terms by so called escort experts that my car did not exist on another non-escort site and it irritates me no end that they will not believe me. Can anyone back me up? Do you know anything of this model? I really wish now that I had never sold it just to prove that my beautiful little escort really lived.

I would really appreciate any help or insight anyone can give me.

Many, many thanks for reading.

Yes ford did slap gti badges on a few other escort's and sell them as a gti model.

Though there not what people think of when you say escort gti, as they weren't as spec'd up like the usual gti was.

Seen a few 1.6 gti's and even the odd 1.4 registered as a gti.

 Oooohhh Thank you guys, this is wonderful news! :thumb: I was beginning to think I was going mad!

Unfortunately I no longer have the original promotional flyer as I gave it to the new delighted owner who had been looking for ages for one of these escorts.

The registration plate is N605 EPU.

Would it be alright to link the non believers to this website to prove to them that my car existed and I hadn't put Golf badges on it? that is what they keep insisting I had done grrrrrrrr.

Any further proof would be out of this world......what stars you all are!

It doesn't come up as being a GTI, but then the 1.8 GTI's don't either. As you know though, it's a dealer fit option so really you'd need the flyer from the dealer to actually prove they exist.

The brochure appears to be ref# FDAA 0136

You have all the documnts/flyers/insurance etc. ... what more do they want as proof!?

I know, but you know what it's like, they like to prove you're wrong and make themselves feel big about it - I'm just so glad you guys know I do not speak with a forked tongue.
