Thanks man, no probs.

You need the dials from a late 1998 escort or I found it easier to get MK5 fiesta dials off eBay. Puma dials are also the same but I'm not sure what MK. Pick your self up some dials then you need the digi plug as well and try get one with a bit of wire for ease of fitting, it's pretty cramp work, well was for me being 6ft, hunched over the steering wheel for 4 hours. Get a blue LED kit too, sets off the White faces so nice, I got one of eBay again and it came with a guide. By far the hardest bit is removing the green filter that's behind the LCD screen so you can fit the blue bulb and not have it greened up. If you need any more advice about that feel free to ask.

For the black digi plug someone on here is most likely gonna have one, or just cut one out of a scrapped car. You need to release the inner part of the plug so you can see all the wire numbers so you can label them all up. Took a bit of swearing to get the two plastic notches pushed in so it releases.

Pick up some decent speaker wire for the perm 12v from the clock and you can use the same for the ECU signal.

That's about it really, i spent ages doing it all but I'm sure others can do it quicker.

The other thing to mention is the backwards fuel gauge, the sender works different on the 1998 and before models (those fitted with old style dials) so you end up with a fuel light that comes on when your full and a gauge that works it's way to full rather then empty.

Again if you get the correct fuel sender this resolves this, will need to come from the relevant escort as said above, Stu mentioned that the fiesta mk5 may work but this wasn't confirmed. I haven't got around to this yet as I think the tank might need draining and removing to do.

I didn't do that to the heater controls but you just take em off the facia and rub off the markings, there's one already like it for sale in the forums I think. The clock can have it's bulbs changed too, fit in the back, not entirely sure if there's a filter in there too.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Well after all of the panick it is only the idler which is below the powersteering motor, having it replaced saturday with a new belt.

Also the gear linkage is rattling off the heatshield/exhaust and the bushings have gone at the stick end so the unique sound of both thoses things rattling made everything appear far worse than it is.

Ill have both sorted saturday and hopefully have enough money to fit all my powercoated bits next month but there wont be much action until then.

Thanks all.

Well Ive have my gear linkage sorted today so that feels true, also removed and re greased the idle pulley and that's much quieter now.

Bad news, both sills which were a bit rusty a month ago now are rotten with holes, need to have both cut out and replaced, booked in in 4 weeks time to have them done, which will delay my powdercoating shinanigans another month, then it's Xmas so might have to wait for the new year, which is gash.

That is all for now :(

the joys of owning fords eh :P

First On Rust and Deterioration :)

hope it all gets sorted soon mate - What I would probably do after new sills are on is coat them with several layers of Waxoyl as no ones gonna see them anyway with the skirts on :)

then they shouldnt rust again - this being plan with my ST as its got a bit setting into the sills (worst is o/side - actually o/side is worst side of my car as thats got the duck tape, bad paint, arch rot as n/side has none and will be sealed properly so it doesnt)

Got to look after the dwindling numbers of these as everyday there are less and less of them on the road.

What got me was how many good fords went in scrappage scheme - including a near mint, low miles, late model EsCos!!!!!!

Heh, love that rust stuff.

Yeh that's what he's gonna do, paint em up with all mannor of protection, can't believe how quickly it's happened, it's literally falling apart at the moment, got time of work in a month so I can have it's done the , just a shame it's another delay with me cracking on.

Yeh it's a shame, there definitly less modified ones around as well, dunno if that's a good or bad thing, the reason I joined this forum was because of some of the Esco's I'd seen just browsing, no 'silly body kits' which seemed to be all the rage where I lived 4-5 years ago.

I shall endevour to continue, even if it does eat most of my pay cheque each month, it's what's being an enthusiast is about, well some of it anyway.

I gave up on my escort after everytime I got one of the job i wanted to do done something else unrelated to what I did would go. Fitted angel eyes and then ABS warning light became perm illuminated which was quite annoying especially as my ghia x didnt have ABS!

cant even remember what caused that now as it was just one thing after another so moved onto mondeos as they are better looking than 5 door escorts (IMO) and I needed practicality of back doors so couldnt get a 3 door escort as they look alot nicer.
