I cant risk the drive to see him cause im pretty sure the something within the cam assembly is making the noise so the 300mile + trip is a no no. Secondly im running out of money paying people to look over it everyweek. Anyway after some hard thinking and the fact that stuff keeps going wrong relentlessly im going to give it up. Im not skilled in engine mechanics and I think i need to be to keep this project going, not forgetting the two whole sills that need replacing. Sad day, ill put her up for sale next monthm problem is everyone on here knows how ill she is.shame to say it but get more selling some of the bits off eg the morettes and cossies and getting some standard bits when you sell the car on or just stripping and scrapping. not what you wanna hear but honestly thats best way Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Its been an emotional night, not knowing what the rattle was was really doing my head in, being where it was coming from too it sounded horrible in the cockpit. You can probably tell from my previous few posts its been a bit up and down. Thing thats annoying is that the cat went on my black escort and it was replaced, i sold the car but swapped the zorsts but not the cats, I really should have done it was only a year old! Ill wait till tomorrow night, if not ill buy the bits off ebay, people on here a usually a bit cheaper and there must be millions of cats and linkages. Cheers Thanks for the offer man, problem is my car is my daily driver so I need the parts like yesterday, the chap doing my sills next month has already got them dirt cheap anyway. As for the decat thats a lovely offer, problem is im not a fail of MOT fail mods, you know having to refit the cat before MOT so i might as well just pay out for it now. Thanks again Right so here we go again. Essential work: Both Sills to be replaced next month - already booked inCat ordered - booked in monday for fittingGearlinkage ordered - booked in monday for fitting.Horrible belt noises - booked in monday also for a complete strip to figure out what is making the racket. Powder coated items will probably wait till the new year now along with the rusty boot, ive decided im going to buy a mint one off here when I get a chance, doesnt matter what colour and have it resprayed. I want to be sure, I dont want this car dying or a cam going or something, if you heard the noises it was making you would want to know for sure that it was safe and ok and given I have no idea the history of the motor I rather have it inspected, we've been over the aux equipment twice now. Im not talking about a full rebuild by the way, just aux's off and inspect the cam assembly. I want this car A1, right now th engine is an epic F, cant have people looking round going 'wtf is that noise' in a bad way Combine that with the noise the cat is throwing out and a gearlinkage that barely selects gears I can be forgiven for wanting to sort it all once and for all. Naylor2006 Posted October 25, 2011 Author Share Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Went to stay with a mate near work again and left my car with my mate Mr Mechanic again. I just got it back and don't even recognise the feel or sound anymore, the zorst note is nice to hear now that the cat has been replaced. I'm not sure how long it's been going for but it was in bits inside so I reckon quite a while, car revs freerer too as well because the gas flow will be sorted. The gearlinkage is from a 68k gti and is in immaculate condition and now stick feels like it's attached to the gearbox now, feels great, obviously got well used to it being sloppy. Had all pulleys removed and regreased so that's much quieter now and the good news is what ever the noise is it isn't anything to worry about, not that ive heard it yet. So I'm happy again, next month I'm gonna need those new sills welded in so that will be next months spend. I apologise but it will be the new year before any cosmetic happens and there's alot left. Fit powdercoated items, 4 calipers, strut brace and rockercover. New tailgate Full fancy dressup hose kit for the engine and chrome items. Then I can think about having an rs2000 engine completely rebuilt and fitted or having m current engine rebuilt, maybe bored out etc with a remap or something. I want a turbo conversion one day but I'll need two cars whilst that takes place, hopefully Stu is still around and I'll pay him to do it. Thanks all. The box I built to house the heatercore and water pump for the water-cooling system to keep the heatercore away from warm case air or warming the main case up.
