Someone had a flocked dash for sale on here, cant remember who and the other day whilst browsing I found one fitted into the car and it looked so nice.

Must repair boot, must repair boot, must repair boot, must repair boot.

As it happens, still looking for the correct fuel sender for my digi dials, most of the online breakers are a huge scam using text messages to nail you a few quid!

this strut brace thing annoys me when people say ford is a better design, clearly its ok but was designed for the cabby for reinforcement only as the car lost its roof!! not for ragging around corners, sparco is racing company that produces race designed products, and its alot better than the simple ford construction, as its more thick tubular which means strength is built in and the best material is used, especially the welding is a lot better too yeah its got the adjustable part on it again that is a solid tubular design therefore no flex, the only strut brace with flex is the silly show one etech! built for show use and to look nice! so end of sparco strut brace imo is the winner as i have one and when i took my car round track no flex what so ever!!

anyways. i am the one providing the powdercoating service to naylor, and trust me when i say this powdercoating anything is a godsend, my 300mm mondeo mk3 calipers which i have done in red a good three years ago, bolted the setup on my escort 2 years ago and the colour has not flaked off, has not lost any colour gone dull or dirty, and they are so easy to clean especially after a good thorough rough time of braking and heavy build up of dust and dirt! no need for any special cleaning products just simple cloth or soap and water! job done! although powdercoating is an expensive process as the metal has to be shotblasted, and if necessary dipped in acid to get rid of all dirt, then cleaned again shotblasted again, to make sure all the metal surfaces have got rid of any previous coatings and is now pure metal. then it gets primed in a special primer, then powdercoat is applied and baked in the high temperature rolling oven and then if need be clear lacquer is used to give an extra depth in shine depending on the colour, i.e. if silver is the colour then clear coat laquer is used on top of the powdercoat to give extra shine and more protection!

if you're interested pm me and i can give you a price on any parts! as long as they are metal!

Not much of an update just some bad news really....

Horrible noises coming from under the cam cover was well as the belts and pullies, engine performance doesnt appear to be effected so I guess the cams are working fine. Whines, grinds and squeeks :(

Anyways back to the mechanic on monday, will update all later that day as to the results.

i know when i looked at prices for replacing my windscreen on my escort the price for a non heated one including fitting was £90. heated one was £195. hope yours isnt heated :P

£195 for heated one is sweet, my excess on fitting a whole new screen is £80, paying another £110 quid for a heated unit doesn't seem so bad.

Well hello everyone! I have some progress at last.

Last Friday I got my car back with the gearbox from Wayne fitted with fresh oil and a new clutch!!! The old gearbox was ruined, turning by hand it sounded like someone eating a bag of crisps but the clutch was worse, down to the rivets, I dont really understand that because it didnt notice it slipping or whining. Obviously I havent got pictures of that but I do have pictures of todays work!

So I picked up some Digi dials from a Fiesta mk5 and I bought a bl00 LED kit, dismantled and fitted the LED's last week to save time today so I couldnt wait to see if it all worked. I also picked up a new facia because I wasnt that keen on the blue painted one (Ross wasnt either lol) and I got a new digi plug from here as the egay ones didnt have any.

Got the week off because I worked the weekend (have to work next too) so I got up early at 10am and started work.

First things first, lets label up them digi wires, will make life so much easier, my gf supplied me with some stationary and I got to work.

First, number 1 :)

...and so on....oh yeh i pre stripped em all too.

http://www.dontcallmeshirley.eclipse.co.uk/phils/phils_pics/mynewcar/IMG_0286.jpg

Using advice from the good members of EVO i made this spreadsheet to make wiring very easy, I was a little nervous about the whole thing so I wanted to make life as easy as possible.

Old unit out and some very scratched wrists trying to disconnect the frankly huge speedo cable.

I wired up the perm 12vs from the clock (Haynes wiring diagram was a treat here) then just the white plug to the digi plug first and did a test to see if it came on or blew up.

http://www.dontcallmeshirley.eclipse.co.uk/phils/phils_pics/mynewcar/IMG_0293.jpg

So it worked fine but the ABS light kept coming on, no matter what I did I couldnt get it to go off, I earthed the signal wires, then I earthed the digi wires then I tried connection as if I did have ABS but that didnt work either because I dont. I gave up and took the dials apart and put insulation tape over the LED. Someones gonna tell me how to do it properly I know.

So with some new confidence (as it all worked) I cracked on with the blue plug.

I got some speaker wire and hooked up the speedo pin and ran the wire through the dash out to the passenger footwell.

Tested again then re placed the dials into their position.

Then onto the ECU, something id been dreading for weeks before today, the ECU came out as expected and I used another wiring diagram to confirm that it was indeed pin 3 I needed, as this was a Mondeo 2.0 ECU I was worried it would be different to that of the guides on here. (It wasnt)

It looks messy because I over insulated because the ECU still scares me.

Rebuilt the rest of the dash with a the new facia and all done!

Standard sh1t dark effect picture to show the bl00 glow!

Took the car for a drive and it all worked, everything did, Im still chuffed now about it all. The digi plugs are such a great addition, I had them on my old escort which ive since sold and I didnt realise how much better they were. Speedo is now only 4-5 mph out at high speeds which is what it should be anyway where as before it was a good 10mph after 60mph. The water temp is now working properly, before it always convinced me thermostat was broken, up down and all over the place, no needle wobble anywhere and an accurate fuel gauge, backwards for now until I get a new sender.

I really want to thank a few people from the forums for being kind enough to answer many PM's regarding the wiring, I know there is a guide in the how to forums but for some reason I couldnt get my head round a couple things. For this a special thanks goes to waynec123 who took the guide and sproused it up taking time of a busy shedule, so thanks man.

Thanks also for help goes to Escort Ross, heavyrightfoot, caldoofy, shaw, JC, JAMGTI and mrmetalica who all contributed to me getting my car back on the road and sorted with fresh dials, if ive forgotten someone please let me know!

Again these forums have been a massively useful resource.

Comments are all welcome!
