mcflycossie
I forgot to put a thread up on this forum so some may have seen this from other forums. I have recently bought back my old Escort GTi for the grand sum of £150. I sold this car a few years ago to a mate and prior to me selling it I used it as a daily car for 5 years and never had any issues with it. This is how it looked when I owned it. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/DaddysCar010.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/DaddysCar009.jpg This is what it looks like currently. The car has a power steering leak that I am trying to sort so any ideas whould be appreciated. The car needs some major TLC but underneath it is in really good condition. Hard to believe its the same car. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/IMAG0170.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/IMAG0177.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/IMAG0168.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/IMAG0168.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/IMAG0171.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/bgreenslade/100_1288.jpg(Will give it a good going over and clean soon. It's had a tough ride since I sold it (

Naylor2006
It looked beautiful before! Clean here up. Power steering is probably just a failed o ring, problem is you have to get alot of it out to find it, best just seeing if anyone on here has one for you. jghs83
Well done. Hope you bring it back ro its former glory. Power steering leak? Can you be more specific? My van developed a leak on the steering input shaft but i have known them to leak where the pipe enter the rack.
mcflycossie
Well my mate said the cannister was rubbing against the aux belt and it slightly gone through. It was replaced by a second hand item that seems ok but there is still a leak. It could be that the pipes have not been tightened properly. There does not seem to be any fluid on top of the alternator which I would have thought would be where the fluid would leak if it was the pump ? The underneath of the engine is a mess th. A CV boot has a split so it is covered in grease and old power steering fluid where it has splashed up everywhere of the belt I presume. The belt also squeaks on idle so that will need to be replaced.
Craig855S
That's awful, WTF did you buy it back for? Shoulda got a different one as that one is only fit for the scrappy IMO (salvage the interior/skirts/spats etc)

Get it saved Ben, should be ok with some new bumpers and a little bit of love!
Craig855S
He said £150. VGC bumpers in panther black have got to be rare, as is a tailgate (which it needs) and then there's the cost of sorting the arches out and refurbing the wheels To get it looking respectable again isnt going to be cheap, I can see him getting any old bumper and having it resprayed as finding a black one will not be easy..£££££

Also I got a rear boot for £35 last night which will be here next week which is again Panther Black. Won't take much to put this GTi straight otherwise I wouldnt have bothered. Underneath is in excellent condition so I don't see the point is scrapping something that can easily put straight. 2x New Arches cost me £8 a pop so will get my mate to weld those in. Be as good as new. Also to add I won't be using these wheels. They will be sold. I have either Oz Super T which I am thinking of spraying white or RS7 to go on. He said £150. Matt86
I think £150s a great price, easily get that back breaking and selling for scrap. Doing it up wont cost too much and I dont think it looks too bad gone from before...just needs a wash and the arches sorted
