Ford also said you can only have 250BHP from a Zetec, im not saying they're wrong or anything.

I highly doubt they ever said that. Of course there are a lot of people working at Ford, so perhaps a janitor or something may have said something about his station!

Tis the info they gave Pa when he asked about them all those years ago.

Possibly a Deliverance (FILM) reference, if you want to be scarred for life I recommend it as a good way of doing that, im not even sure what the purpose of the film was.

Went in for a few hours today, mainly to sort Ma's car out but i ended up checking the piston to valve clearances, all good in that department.

Looking good, be nice to see it all bolted up and in a car, shame you may not be mapping it?

Surely he'd want the bulder to map it if they're capable?

I am not capable of mapping myself so I am letting Reyland do mine.

Aye, can't wait to hear it.

Hmm, we'd like to map it, well, I want to anyway. That way, if something does go wrong, we know its not down to someone else.

I think he does mapping and tuning though.

Unfortunately after the snag with the rods, they just aren't up to the job, so Gary (owner) sourced some Arrow rods, which has taken a load off.

Expecting this to go to 8500RPM fairly comfortably now.

Managed to do the spring heights on four Inlets before running out of correct thickness shims.

Christ almighty, did this engine fight us today! Because we're in a rush to get that head finished today, for engine final assembly tomorrow, something couldn't fit because of something else, it just didn't wanna go together, well, tough sh!t Zetec!

Anyway, Started doing the valve spring heights, i did twelve valves, the spring seats we've had made, i just so happened to measure one, the drawing we gave the engineer asked for a 1mm step on the underside, i measured it and it was .85mm....So i measured another, 1.08mm......Oh, sh1t! None of them are the same so i had to redo all twelve valves, not my idea of fun, for all of you that don't know about valve spring heights it's a very, very time consuming job, all cylinder heads are and it took me from near enough 9:30am - 6pm to get that done. During that time we were also sticking the oil gallery bungs in the head, oh, the cam pulley's catch them. So we got John to make up some bungs quickly.

Now it was shimming time, another lengthy job......Oh, the cams don't turn in the head, they also catch the side of the cylinder head on one side, but not the other, so whereas we thought it all turned freely after the machining, it didn't on the other side! So we got the grinder out, which meant cleaning all the head out again. Right, back to where we were, we found out the shim thicknesses we wanted, so we grabbed the new shim, put it in the micrometer.....Oh.......The micrometer bar doesn't fit in the shim indent.....So Mikes on the case to find us one in the morning....This engine doesn't want to go together.

Right, after that essay i suppose it's picture time, oh how disappointed you will be to find out that there aren't very many.

Finally got the spring heights finished.

Mike bought Gary's new rods over.

And John the engineer bought the new breather adapter over.

That's all for now folks, tomorrow, if we can get a Micrometer it should see the engine built and timed up.

Didn't manage to get it built today due to it being a Saturday and everyone comes down to say hello and too many cups of tea are had. Also moving workshop.

Anyway, got it all shimmed up, built and ready to fit.

Tomorrow just got to fit the pistons, bolt the head on and time it up, i hope.

Finished it off today, ready for Gary to pick up at some point.

Fitted the new rods and pistons to find that they hit the main cap carrier plate, so had to take that off and machine it away. It was an easy build from there really, dialed the cams in, guessed em within a pulley tooth, so nice and easy.

All down to Gary to wire it, plumb it and map it, still hoping he gets us to map it though.
