Update time.

Head's back from the machine shop, had to machine the valve spring area so the cam lobes could rotate without hitting the head. Ground the valves in, got everything ready to check the spring heights and did that all important 20BHP mod.

I'm surprised you're using aluminium pulleys?

Why's that?

Because old fashioned steel ones are better ?

I'm surprised you are using single springs. What will be the RPM limiter set to ?

And 200 BHP ? What's the total budget ? We have a 1700 rally engine with 183.9 BHP, so I'm very interested to see what you gonna do with this one.

How much are you pitting the pistons ?

200BHP is quite achievable in a 1.6. My Pa reckons with the right amount of money he could do a near on 250BHP version, but that'll be expensive.

Inlet at the front Fiesta engine.

The springs have proved successful over the many years on another engine we've developed.

Why are the old fashioned steel ones better? They've heavier for a start? There is nothing wrong with aluminium verniers, again, we've used them for years.

The budget is what the guy bought, he asked us to do the best we could with the parts he gives us. 200BHP is the ball park figure, it also depends on mapping, when we mapped the Focus we messed around with cam settings etc for ages to get his phenomenal torque curve. Whether the owner will do that i don't know, he may ask us to map it as well yet, i don't know.

Pitting? As in valve cut outs? We've cut them to give enough clearance.

Because aluminium pulleys wear and throw the timing out.

Good luck with getting a genuine 200bhp. Ford motorsport got this engine to about 205bhp with lots of development, and that was on a far superior inlet.

They do, but when you rebuild them yearly its not really an issue. Bear in mind they only do a few thousand miles a year.

Ford also said you can only have 250BHP from a Zetec, im not saying they're wrong or anything.

I highly doubt they ever said that. Of course there are a lot of people working at Ford, so perhaps a janitor or something may have said something about his station!
