Escort van revival

Ive had the van for a year now. Come mot time I had to take it off the road, this was due to the sills being rusty as and the engine wasn't registered on the v5 and the dvla won't do it without proof of purchase, I bought the van like this with a handwritten receipt for a Gti that was the donor car. No v5 for the cpdonor car, which I was told was sufficient to register it. Apparently not.

Sorry, to confirm, if you want to change an engine on a car you need to have the V5? What if the car has been scrapped obviously the V5 will have been sent to the DVLA to notify them so how can you have a v5?

Get that grinder fired up and get them sparks flyin

Got to pick it up first mate. Once I've got it it's wether or not to gt on with grinding or wait until I have the welder. It could be a few weeks, even a month before I can get a welder?

get one of them wire wheels for the grinder they are very good at removing paint and sealer but MUST WEAR GOGGLES/FACEMASK as little bits of wire start to fly off when it wears out and they hurt ,always use it so it rotates away from you as to lessen the chance of getting spiked the good thing about them is they dont remove any good metal only rust /paint /sealer looks like it would be fine to just plate them remember the cleaner the steel is the better it will weld .as for grinders buy the best you can afford cheap ones tend to be noisy and vibrate .ive had a few and now prefer bosch they seem to last well .ive had my last one for about 5 years now (it gets used every weekend ) :thumb:

theres a few little bits i need to get into. I've been doing ok with a bit of sand paper and a wire brush so it can't do me any harm. I've read that with the right fittings they will cut 1mm metal so it may be handy for getting to some of the tighter bits that need cutting out.

if its no good for the car I'm sure ill find load of other bits in the flat to cut up or polish or sand or drill or grind.

and i just noticed, i got the dremel 3000 not the 4000, bt pretty much the same but about £40 cheaper for what i paid for it

they are very good but bit slow and when cutting steel the discs dont last very long .i am restoring a old car at the moment and have used the dremmel for removing rusted screws that are too small for the grinder .handy tool and will be usefull for getting to places the grinder wont :thumb:

what car you restoring? I'm glad you don't think the rust looks too bad to deal with. when I'm in the van i look and think, oh thats not to bad, then i go away and start to think about it and start thinking its a lot worse than it actually is.

my main budget so far seems to be going on tools. at least the tools are mine then. once I've done this i can have a look at another project and i already have a lot of the tools that i need.

thats my theory as well. I have a mondeo ST24 I am doing project on and have got lots of tools I didnt before including MIG welder off ebay, air compressor and tools I bought off peewee, selection of better quality sockets and so on.

Means when I have the money I can get a full on project car and have the tools to do it (mk1 escort or mk3 capri depending on budget for job)
