My New Focus

So with the Escort I loved so much costing me £330 in a good month just in fuel to go to work and back along with the continued maintenance etc and all the things that go along with such a car I finally decided enough was enough. Since I bought the thing August 2011 I did nothing but work on it and that was only going to continue.

I went and got a 1.6 TDCI Zetec Focus, I was resided to the fact that I wasnt going to end up with a car I liked that much but it would save me money and stress.

However, I love it, so many 'other' things to enjoy, I have 2.5 years warrenty still, no tax to pay at all until March and that will be £30, I can get between 530-570 miles from one tank, im saving nearly £200 a month and obviously the massive saving that im not working on the Escort anymore. The majority of the spending was keeping it reliable and its a difficult car to commute 78 miles a day in as my daily driver.

All the voice command iphone tunes phone bluutoooth sh1t is great, DAB radio is great too, I actually ended up quite liking the look too so im pretty happy and also the Escort is off the road now at a garage and I havent decided what im gonna do with it yet, might sell for parts but recently looking at some pictures of all the stuff ive done I may just cover it and break it out at some point, I have sold the cossies however but I never liked them anyway.

This wont be a progress topic but just to show the people im so fond of my new car and to recieve some banter im sure.

Love the look of that interior.

Nice move.

Thanks!

Yeh man, its all blue lights, spent forever blu-ing up everything in my escort and this one came all blue anyway, steering wheel controls really easy to use too, I love browsing my music on the center screen, making calls via voice commands etc.

Was my birthday Wednesday just gone and Dad got me some genuine mats for it from the local Ford, gonna give it a right clean after my nights and fit them in, might even post about it, not quite the same as the Escort topic though

Now Naylor, i hate modern cars okay.

But i like that. Nice buy mate is it a new car? Didn't fancy the Ecoboost? :)

It was registered March 2012 and had done 8000 miles, it was a fleet car I imagine.

I dont like modern cars either really but it certainly has grown on me and when you spend 2 hrs a day in your car its important to like it, like I said first off I was like im going to dislike my new car regardless but money and stress being reduced so much is worth it, as it turns out I even ended up liking the look, think the front end is particulary nice and the interior lighting is real nice. Sports seats in the ZETEC model too.

Did a lot of reading when I went quiet for a bit and there was too many people complaining about the EcoBoost and its quoted MPG figures, obviously in this I dont get the 70mpg it claims it should but on average including everything the car quotes im getting 52mpg on the trip computer, putting it on the live mpg read out is far too obsessive and distracting lol. Also there is alot of these cars from 0.5 to 1 years old that have done under 10k which was where my search was focused, so many fleet cars now for sale, then it was just about getting the best deal which was actually in Newport at the car Super Market up there. I looked at 4 up there and picked my favourite, went for a Panther Black one also as that was the colour of my first escort. Paid well under the Parkers guide price also and the ones at Vospers etc were older and more expensive.

On the whole was very impressed with MotorPoint Supermarket and their staff.

Im gonna have done like 40,000 miles before the warrenty is up, piece of mind is nice.

Nice car, but surely it works out more expensive overall?

Thanks Stu.

Yeh, of course when you factor in the cost of the car (I assume you mean that) over a time period I'm out of far more money, I spent some money that was locked away for years so there's no finance each month but I accept the point. It's worth if for other reasons, using the Scort to commute to work was just becoming unworkable in the end, really my only spend monthly of my earnings is on diesel.

That's a lovely looking space capsule you got there son. Too many buttons for me, to be fair. I'm old school like that though.

I remember when I first test drove one I thought the exact same but Ford have nailed the layout and its simple to use, you're never like, "what's that one do again?"

Just out of curiosity, because it's just popped into my head. What is your opinion on non-removable head units? Most modern cars now have all the ICE built around the dash so you can't upgrade the head unit. Would you say this is an advantage or disadvantage?

I'm assuming newer cars have much better speaker quality, and you can probably EQ the ICE anyway on the LCD screen they got going on.

A bit off-topic, but as you asked.. Advantage is security and lack of theft interest... disadvantage is quality.

to be fair though, anyone other than a die hard ICE enthusiast will find most new systems more than adequate?

my Sony equipped 2004 Mondeo is more than adequate. The better half kicks off if it goes loud anyway  .....plus these days you look a bit of a tit going down the road "boom boom boom boom"

on topic: Nice Focus

also, as a side note, it's amazing how much the commute will be so much more bearable now. Mine is quite small compared to yours, a 40 mile round trip, but going from a shitheap Vectra to a decent spec TDCi Mondeo was heaven :)

Good to see you back on here naylor really nice car you've bought would have gone for a 3 door myself but thats just personal preference, really hope you dont break the escort and can find some long term storage option for it you put to much time money and effort into it just to break it.
