Your stopping a 1.6 ? , the standards will do just fine, if not then it's not an upgrade you need.

As for fake disks, pffft!!!! :innocent:

Next thing you will be looking at fake Morettes? :O

bloody hell those look sh1te, whoever though of those needs shooting, just like the fake brakes. :kill: why would anyone ever think that those things where a good idea??? I saw those eyelashes in Halfords yesterday (now the poundshop one I can forgive, they're worth that) but £35 a set in Halfords - some people are paying serious money for them????!!!! there are some really stupid people out there.

love the escort - next I'm gonna look for a sunstrip that has 'rob' over the drivers side and 'rob's b1tch' over the passanger side  lets just hope I don't give any my mates a lift

it's not that the brakes don't work, it's just that I forget to use em till the last second :P tbh part of the reason is aesthetics for when the turbines go on.

As for keeping up you said "I saw those eyelashes in Halfords yesterday" that followed my pic of light masks, it's how it was wrote :)

yeah, sorry, went back to previous comment before yours. I think my mind was trying to block out those 'fake brakes' as they're so hidious, didn't actually notice them till you repeated they where on there - mind refuses to accept that fake brakes even existed. not to worry dude, we all make mistakes, love you cab you got now :) thats what matters.

Got the callipers the other day, just cleaning them up and gonna do a seal change on them just to be sure they're ok. pads look new - well, old but unused. gonna clean then up and paint them, should be getting them on in the next couple of weeks. got my side skirts and spats, wing mirrors and a bit of light wiring to do but gonna try to aim for it all to be ready to bolt on at the same time and just do one mammoth fitting session when the weathers better.

for those that have done this before, will I see a vast improvement in braking? Will I notice anything much or will I headbutt the steering wheel first time I try them?

cool, I've stripped down the rs calipers to give them a clean and paint and noticed that the pads are about twice the size as the standard ones :D gonna use the standard rs discs that came with them for the mo till I can afford the Blackdiamond discs and pads. Can't wait to get them on.

i'd consider ferodo DS2500 pads with those discs, awesome stopping power

hi, Not being rude, am taking your suggestion on board, could you explain why mix matched would work better than pads and discs that are designed to work together? you may be right, just wondering why?

A fair question, it's a combination that I have tried and tested and like. The discs ( Black diamond drilled combies) seem to the best that I can find, the supposedly "matched" pads don't seem very matched when compared with ferodo ds2500.

That's my personal opinion with having driven two cars with them on. They perform excellently on the track and take a hammering and wear well. They are fine on the drive to the shop too. You may find them harsh but I have had them on my escort now for a while and would not consider anything else. It's a pricey combination but worth it. Very much down to opinion, but based on my experience that is what I would recommend.

I think AP brakes use the DS2500 pads in their callipers as standard?

that's a weird one that that is. fair enough. am concerned though if your saying it's a bit harsh on the trip to the shops....... I get the missus nagging that i drive too fast, brake too hard atm, don't want to give her any more excuses, if you know what I mean. haha. will bear them in mind but tbh the predators seem to be the way to go, plus I can get a set discount :).

Does anyone know how to get the pistons out without an air compressor? they are right royally stuck, tried footpump etc, have managed to lever them halfway but don't want to risk any further just in case I damaged them.

When i did mine they only came out halfway with the airline. I sat on the floor with the half caliper at my feet, gripped the piston with some mole grips and tugged away!

right, this is where I am up to with this: The calipers have been sandblasted and have been painted, new pistons have been ordered. the leading edge was pretty corroded on the existing ones and when the bloke blew them out with an airline, he did it at full whack and the pistons came flying out and bounced over everything :( (was not happy with him and had a right go!) so now not trusting the strength in the piston I went for some new ones. £52 delivered for the pair from Brake Parts Superstore  .

My query for the brakes are that when I was putting the inner rubber seal back into the piston housing, although the housing looks clean (it was shotblasted and I've swilled it out wth some brake cleaner) I was still aware of fine grit from the shotblasting. How clean should the housing be, I don't really want little bits of grit floating about in there do I? I'm assuming this will damage the seals over time and cause it to leak? Has anyone got any tips on the best way of cleaning the housing out?
