Hi peeps

Im trying to decide what to do with my escort mk6 gti, to cut a long story short the bottom end bearings are fooked on it (2.0 mondy). I spent alot on welding on the last MoT and the shell is good bar one arch.

Now, I am paying up my Integra type R (DC2 for those of you who know about Hondas) and its an absolute animal :thumb:

So the question, (excuse the poor structure of this post but im just back from Autosport with the lads so my heads not in the best of places :drunk: )

Do I keep the escort and fix it over summer? Im at uni in my 4th year so ill be finishing in June time and as ive not had any positive replies about proper jobs yet ill need something to keep me sane whilst I work in retail lol.

I have for it: 300mm brakes, roll cage, harnesses, morettes, compomotive alloys, avo coilovers and top mounts, spare bumpers etc all built up from 4 years on the escort scene, but im noticing parts are getting hard to sell and they arnt selling for much. So do I build it with what ive got and rag it about knockhill/ sell up while theres still some money in the parts and pay off the teg/buy a trailer to make money towing?

Really dont know, I am attached to it but: will I have money to use it as a track car, will I get days off? trouble is I dont have my career sorted so everythings up in the air :nutter:

Any advice from the been there done that peeps would be good!

I don't think I'll ever get rid of or scrap my escort. How many topics have you seen on here where, members has put alot of time effort blood sweat and tears, oh and money into building an escort the way they want it, then only to either scrap it, or sell it. Ok the answer might be I'll get more money by scrapping it and selling the parts, but realistically are you ever going to get the money back you've spent on it, no probably not.

My answer would be keep it, as a hobby don't just scrap it. You've had all the welding done so sounds fairly solid, and got most of the parts so your half way there.

I won't be getting rid of my escort I don't care what work it needs doing to it, to keep it on the road. Ok may be bit easier for me as I'm in the car trade. But I think people are just scrapping them to easily, way that's happening there won't be many escorts left. No they won't have the heratige of the mk1/mk2 escorts, but that's no reason not to teh and keep them going. Ok mine might be completely standard, but that's what I want as every mk6 you see has been modded in some way, so makes a change to see a standard one.

Took the words out of my mouth.

I agree with both answers you've had so far.

I modified and broke and scrapped my escort and got almost bugger all of what I spent back.

Its the same for me with my mondeo ST24. Its an old mondeo worth very little and alot of the parts arent worth masses now a days with mk3 mondeos being so cheap now. However I love that car and couldnt bring myself to scrap it so I will work on it in my spare time and build it up to the standard I want and then when its done decide exactly how I will use it as to whether it takes over as my day to day car or (a I would prefer) it becomes a weekend toy that I take to shows, do the odd track day and road trips.

But it depends if you have that level of love for it or if you'd rather just use the teg?

i am gonna keep my escort make it mint and use it for track days and such, escorts are getting thinner on the ground now and when its not broke i really do enjoy driving it and it still surprises a few people with what it is capable of

in a few years how many escorts are you going to see when going about your daily business

Cheers for the replies lads. Really I was just thinking it would give me the ability to go on track as its cheap to fix. There is no way i could use the teg because 1. It's too clean and 2. It's so expensive to fix lol

Why on earth would you want an old rusty Escort if you have an Integra?

this.

Don't get attached to cars silly boy. They are just a lump of metal!!

have you ever put pics up of the ITR? if not, do so :)

Yeah but I always get attached! I keep thinking how much it would cost be to buy the parts again cos I got them all very cheap like! But it could go to paying off the car which is probably most sensible.

And ill get pics up the now!

The only time you'll get decent money back on an Escort is if it has an RS badge on it.

I wouldn't throw money at an Escort while I didn't have a careerer sorted and hadn't paid off my other motor.

This is what im thinking, its hard to be sensible

THIS,THIS and THIS.

Don't mess about with an escort when you could have the occasional trackday in the Teg. And don't think a couple of hundred quids worth of welding makes it worth piling more money into. Sell it all up and enjoy driving the Integra a few times on track (You never know, you might lose the motivation to do more than one trackday by the time you've got the escort ready)
