The silver-top small end is 13/16th of an inch, or 20.63mm. The Vauxhall pistons are 21mm, which allows for a slight reaming and then interference fit. I don't know any of the VAG piston geometries.

You're looking for a piston around 80.7 - 81.5mm diamter, 21mm pin, ~30mm compression height. I think some of the early Renault Clio Williams 16v/Williams may be somewhere close, too.

I know nothing about engines but would suggest:

1: Make an honest shopping list of how much this will cost before buying any more random items

2: Weigh up make a list of time, disappointment, headache, effort and heartache

3: Drive then price up cheap impreza's, enjoy the fun and decide if you might get more pleasure from that

4: Remember how long the Escort/Fiesta shell your going to ram this engine into will actually last now?

5: have a wank to release frustration then start from 1: again to see if your answers vary.

Im gonna echothe sentiments of others when I say you can get much more grin factor from a car that you buy that had a decent engine from the getgo, plenty of fast cars can be bought for pittence these days (Im a volvo man myself so if i wanted cheap speed id get a T5 tomorrow, as it is I have a NA petrol volvo with 170BHP)

my opinion.....

anyone can buy a turbo car and drive it.... but to me there's something about having something thats not normal, ie a car with a turbo engine that it didn't come with, and having something thats unique.

Is sticking a nippy engine in an old Fiesta or Escort unique these days? I'd say a 20-25 year old mint OE car was more unusual than a bodged go faster one.

Anything that was built on a shoestring is bodged. So unless you're going to do it to a standard an OE engine would be built then that's that, decomp plates and whatnot are bodges

To be fair, i would not be in the least bit surprised if a manufacturer used a decomp plate these days....

for a turbo manifold why not focus rs turbo look here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-Rs-Mk...=item25897a6903

that's pretty cheap! that would be a start just like Stu'd original gti turbo! and you have to remember you got to run it on super unleaded when its done! no cheapo 95 rubbish

also just look around for people selling turbo converted engines so you don't have to do all the hard work! I know that maybe risky depending on who built it but still maybe cheaper and easier to get it going

don't see the point in poncing about turboing a zetec if you're only after 180 bhp tbh. much easier and cheaper to fit a cvh turbo lump instead.

its more about if i can do, rather than how much power i can get
