escortedal
just a we bit of advice fellas, when going into the jet wash style car washes please switch off your engines,a young lad (17) was washing an old fellas car from the front and the old guy straightened his leg to get cash out his pocket to pay for it ,as he did this his car shot forward about twenty feet and crushed the young lad between his car and a wall, boy suffered serious skull fracture, all teeth smashed and probably a few other broken bones and tissue damage, hopefully he will make a full recovery, but to avoid any mishaps like this best kill the engine whilst cleaning cars.happened at an auto shine in dunfermline yesterday afternoon at baldridgeburn for anyone thats local to it,lads name is ben for anyone that knows him....al. geordie_aaron
hmmm...manual car: the guy would have it in gear with foot on clutch.... so straightening his 'assuming right leg' for change would make no difference unless bringing left foot up.....which you wouldn't do if you were straightening your leg... auto car: it would have to be in a forward gear and would already be creeping if he didn't already have his foot on the brake...... if this is all true then something has gone amiss - is this what you've seen in the local rag or news, or a mate tell you? duffa
i'd like to know how straightening your leg could cause this ?... as aaron has stated ... manual or auto... straightening leg wouldnt really have caused it
PeeWee
No handbrake, in gear, foot on clutch, and engine running for the duration of a hand wash, seriously wtf?Even in an auto, no handbrake, in drive with foot on brake and again engine running for the duration?20 feet forward my first reaction would of been to bang on the brakes before 5 foot cleared.Hope the poor lad is ok & recovers but the old guy must be a total tit. Craig855S
I often leave my engine running during these for 2 reasons1.)theyre dont really quick as they dont dry the car and dont use elbow grease, they just swipe the entire car in a matter of minutes2.)There is no real detent between pos I and pos II on my ignition barrel so to go from engine running to just radio is very very difficult so i just dont bother lol This guy sounds like a total monkey if he's managed to travel a fair distance without stopping the car,he must have been sat in gear with his foot on the clutch and then relaxed his foot off the clucth forgetting it was in gear, but that doesnt explain how it moved,if he had pressure on the footbrake the engine would stall,if he didnt then his handbrake is either very Shite or just wasnt on We must need a shoutbox, just for nadine.
