Some good/bad news I've just discovered.

The car had the optional M-Tech suspension (I think it was optional rather than standard on the IS model) which is excellent, however looking at it's folder of receipts, I think the springs (at least) will all have been replaced by now with crap.

This leaves me with the question of do I fork out for replacement M-Tech gear (it needs a spring anyway) or do I just replace it with standard stuff? :(

I've just been out in my shorts and slippers in the pouring rain to check what colour it is and to actually see it in the light. I took another couple of terrible pictures while out.

Excuse the drip!

M42 1.8 16v engine. 140bhp @ 6,000rpm, 129 lb/ft @ 4,500 rpm, 113 bhp per tonne.

The car is Dunkelblau, which means with a clean and polish should look like this:

My mistake, it turns out you can see the sun in Scotland. In fact, you can see it through my cars boot :(

Absolutely gutted.

Not really sure what to do with it now. As usual, a cheap car is turning into a very expensive one.

Well, I was out at it on Sunday to look at what else needed done. Saturday was a write off since it was torrential rain all day.

It would seem that this torrential rain was a fantastic fault finder, as the interior was swimming. All 4 footwell carpets soaking, like, wring-out soaking, and under the back seat, too. Pretty raging about buying such a shitter, but it hadn't rained in many a day when I went to look at it, so everything was dry. Still, I couldn't sell on a car is such a bad condition with clear conscious, so I'm miffed at how others can.

So okay, we've got some welding needing done, which maybe isn't a big deal. Get a homer and at the end of the day, it's not chassais rails, it's the boot floor.

Water ingress. Far from ideal, due to potential for causing more problems(rot/electrics), but replace a couple of seals, give it some time to air..... no big deal....

Next I thought I'd check the electrics , as having followed the tow bar wiring (which needs removed to weld the boot) I saw that it looks like amateur hour on the rear lights where they've spliced in to take feeds for the tow bar electrics. This also seems to be where the boot water ingress is.

My findings: No reverse lights and no sidelights. Shite.

Replaced the fuses for both yesterday. No success. Really was thinking the worst at that point and considering jacking the lot in, cutting my losses and selling it as spares or repair.

Replaced a sidelight bulb tonight, and........... it worked. Will grab another couple from work tomorrow and that should one thing scored off the list!

Reverse light switch arrives at work tomorrow. £5 after discount, so hopefully that might sort the reverse lights, and would mean the electrics aren't totally shot... somehow.

Ironically, this is the only E36 I've owned that's electric sunroof actually works perfectly! Haha.

My brother who's a spaky offshore arrives home on Thursday and I've roped him into sorting out the electrics, so in a week's time, we should have the electrics sorted, spring kit on and welding done! Phew!

LOL... epic typo. My brother is a sparky... not a spaky offshore......
