sidrick
Insurance bought today and starting on March the 2nd! £1995 + 22.5% APR. Approx. £2400 (paying monthly). Ouchy Kwik-fit was the cheapest I could find, by the way, and included a free MOT voucher. I think it's a good idea to get cars MOT'd at tyre & exhaust places as they're unlikely to make things up if they don't do extensive MOT repairs. McRic
Ouch! is it so high because it's a BMW or were your quotes for pretty much any car daft anyway?
sidrick
Ouch! is it so high because it's a BMW or were your quotes for pretty much any car daft anyway? I've got 3 convictions on my licence, none of them for speeding..... An Escort 1.6 was £1,900 paying monthly That said, the 318is is a daft insurance group for what it is. MikeM
Looks pretty good. Not a fan of any other BMW apart from this shape. Clear repeaters will look nice against the blue paint.
sidrick
It's Christmas in the Sidrick household!! http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/SDC10038.jpg As you see, my shocks arrived today. I'm already impressed with them as despite the rave reviews I was worried I might receive some flimsy Jap crap. However, these are very heavy and sturdy items and are German made. The proof will be on the fitting though, but it's a good start. Also there are two new rear shock top mounts, n/s and o/s front upper and lower spring pads (about £1.50 each with my BMW discount so I thought 'why not while the springs are out anyway?'), and a new induction boot since the old one is split and will be creating an air leak. Ordering a new battery tomorrow. $$$ Edited February 3, 2010 by sidrick
escortjas
Hey, at least your sticking with it, and i recon even with the decent parts, by the time you've fixed it up and got it on the road it will still have cost less than a good one. That and the fact yours has lots of shiny new bits as well .
danposs86
Ordering a new battery tomorrow. $$$ Wouldnt a second hand one from a scrappy do?
sidrick
Ordering a new battery tomorrow. $$$ Wouldnt a second hand one from a scrappy do? The benifit of new parts is that they shouldn't fail in days/weeks/months and they come with guarantees. I'd rather be safe in the knowledge that I have a new battery with a 3 year guarantee, for the sake of 35 quid.
geordie_aaron
you may laugh- but i have a halfords trade card .........saved me £60 on a battery last year?
sidrick
you may laugh- but i have a halfords trade card .........saved me £60 on a battery last year? You can get batteries at a good price from the dealer (who I work for), then I get a 30% discount. So it shouldn't be tooooooooooo bad. I'll report back tomorrow though. sidrick
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/SDC10039.jpg Today's arrivals. Engine, gearbox and diff oil courtesy of Opie Oils. Also number plate surrounds (I bet you can guess what they're for, lol). Battery ordered online today and also a cheap stereo. Exciting pics of those probably early next week and some suspension and brake stripping pics over the weekend if the weather holds out! Aye, if I was a member I'd change the title to BMW 318is mega-project' (maybe a kind mod will do it) or something, lol. It'll be pretty much a brand new car by the time it's on the road!Sadly, I fear it's going to be fate that some spastard will probably run into the back of it or something once it finally reaches the road, after all this effort/expense. I know what you mean about some others, there's nothing worse than folks 'project' threads with eleventy million pages of no pics and no progress. The only thing holding this one up is that I work full time, it's dark when I get home and raining at the weekend. I don't have a garage big enough to put the car in to work on it
