sidrick
I thought I might as well get one of the front stuts off to take into work tomorrow for one of the technicians to build for me (mentioned already I'm not cocking about with spring compressors with numb fingers!). Something's missing:http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/car070210001.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/car070210002.jpg Original shock and broken spring. This was the side that wasn't knocking like hell!http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/car070210003.jpg Edited February 7, 2010 by sidrick
sidrick
Move along, nothing to see here. I appreciate this topic isn't that exciting nor Escort based, but I'm mainly updating for my own benifit, as a kind of journal, lol. Took my knackered strut and spring into work today and now have a shiney strunt and spring assembley complete with gumbling top-mount bearing (facepalm). It's not bad, but not good. I asked the parts department at work what the availability was and apparently there's no E36 strut top mounts (bearings are part of the mount) in any dealership in the UK!! It will pass the MOT so I've just fitted it back together with the intention of two new strut top mounts in a month or two's time. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/car0802102.jpg Battery arrived and was fitted today. Not much to say about that other than I forgot to put it's little winter coat on (facepalm) so will have to take it out and refit it when it's not pitch black. Bought from work today:http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/car080210.jpgFront o/s & n/s brake disc back plates. Mine were non-existent, which is an MOT fail. The $$$ is fairly adding up now. Kind of wish I just slung it in for an MOT to see what they missed! But then, I'll be driving it every day so want to know it's right. Craig855S
Moving along well this Sid, Those new plates are gonna improve the car no end but they're illegal, and its not the cops judgement that gets you the ticket these days, its the ANPR machine that cant read them and once it flags up to the copper in the car, or the staff member in the video centre then they're gonna be having words. All depends how often you encounter ANPR out on the roads though. I got away with black plates on my last escort and the Volvo for a total of about 18 months before getting pulled. I'll be honest, I've never seen one up here. It'll cost about £4 for standard plates from work, and if I'm pulled once then the German plates will be gone for good. They were just a 'touch', no big deal really. Edited February 8, 2010 by sidrick

mykez69
Nice to see you got the rust repaired. If you found the rust on day one after buying the car, do you think you would of continued to do her up?

Saunders
I agree with Dan, it's good to see this project mate, even if it's not an Escort as you say. On a personal note, it's good for me to watch as I bought the same model as you just recently, so if I need any parts I can flick through this etc and see where you got bits and bobs from. Keep up the good work
Lee_2f2f
Good Progress as usual Sid. Are you saving much monies by getting your work to do some of the stuff for you?
sidrick
It cost me the same to get them to put a spring on a shock as it would have cost me to do myself, so no, not really saving anything.

escortjas
Much improved front end and at least it'll do corners now without falling over.Alpinas would be nice, but i was thinking of the splits as they are genuine bmw so the insurance company can do one (unless any insurance savvy people know different?).
