Ahmotorsport
Got the Cossie ECU's rigged back up and the seat back in and what a fucken game that was! Must have had the thing in and out four times correcting the owners mistakes. Then had to make some floor plates up as he used normal washers, so i did, then i found out he had used studs and nuts, so the stud was threading through the wrong nut so i could never tighten it up, so had to take the seat back out to weld the nuts on etc etc. Didn't take any pictures though, i must have been too fed up with it by the end! http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001075.jpg We're now waiting on the electrician and we've got to order up some glass. Ahmotorsport
Another good day. Engine room got another lick of paint, got loads more to do though, which is tomorrow. But at least we can start using it now. Sierra is all back together, just waiting for the starter terminals still. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001080.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001081.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001082.jpg (Temporary breathing system) http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001076.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001077.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001079.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001083.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001084.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001085.jpg
Naylor2006
There is something so nice and flat about the rocker cover for the cossie engines, simple and elegant.

Ahmotorsport
Another lick of paint for the engine room. The bumper is fibreglass on the Cossie and the bracketry that was made by the body work guy 'came un stuck' so i took it on myself to sort that out, which i did. I then decided i couldn't put up with the God awful, poorly made/painted bumper, so i rubbed it down and gloss white rattle canned it, looks much better, too bright for the rest of the car but a race meeting will sort that out. I'm going to ask him if he wants me to paint the skirts/spats/bumpers properly for FREE if he buys the stuff, that's how bad they look. I can't have one of our Cossie's looking like that. Starter terminals turned up, so soldered them on and run her up, tappets are quiet again, so all it's as good as it's gonna be for Silverstone. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001086.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001087.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001090.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001091.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001092.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001093.jpg Video to come. Ahmotorsport
Fire extinguisher back in the Cossie, tried to start it and it barely clicked, knew exactly what it was, as it's not uncommon, due to the vibrations, the two long bolts that hold the two halves of the starter together had worked loose and it fell in half, took it off, bolted it together and away it went, got it hot, checked the fans worked and set the tick over, sounds good, ready to go. Another lick of paint for the engine room too. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001099.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001098.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001100.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001101.jpg
sidrick
A bit off topic, but you were talking about soldering starter terminals..... I'm looking to relocate my battery to the boot. If I buy used BMW cables then the terminals will likely be different from my battery. What's the procedure for changing the terminals? I assumed but the old ones off and use some kind of tool to press the new ones on.
Ahmotorsport
What type are they? The 'blow off in an accident' type? Or just normal 'ring' terminals?

You'll either need a hefty crimping tool or to solder the joint, Personally i'd take the cables to an auto electrician and have him crimp the terminals on for you (He'll have the right tool and probably some terminals suitable just sat there, 5 minutes work)
Ahmotorsport
Nothing odd about those terminals Sid, i'd just solder them tbh. Fill the terminal with as much solder as you can, dump the cable in and solder it in from the top and underneath too.
Ahmotorsport
Not much has happened to take pictures of really. Alfa battery flat as a pancake, wouldn't take a charge. New one turned up today, put it on and there's no fuel in it, so got to pick some up, tomorrow hopefully. Oh, started building the C20LET bottom end, crank bearing clearances good, crank assembled, spins nicely, piston ring grooves cleaned, just need to clean the rest of it and put them in. Ahmotorsport
Mike bought a Golf over that needed a water pump. The story is as follows. Needed cam belt, a garage changed the cam belt and not the tensioners/idlers. Tensioner failed bent exhaust valves. Garage changed valves and tensioner. Water pump failed, looks like it locked up and caused the cam belt teeth to 'shred' third cam belt in the space of a month, not impressed with whoever did the work on that one! Couldn't finish it today as parts place were closed and we didn't know it needed a cam belt. Cleaned the C20LET pistons. Sign man came and finished the rest, looks pukka. Rover V8 Land Rover down as it keeps spitting back, someone had made a right meal out of the ignition system, they had half converted it to electronic, but it had no advance/retard, sorted that out, coil was getting very hot, changed it, loads better, but still did it, richened up the carburettors, better, did it a bit more, better, all the way rich, almost there and with the choke out driving it's perfect, looks like somebodies put the wrong carburettors/jets on it as they can't be for that vehicle. Also got some fuel for the Alfa, wouldn't fire, no spark, took some crap out the points and it had spark, then the whole distributor spins round, including the base plate. Taken it out for strip down. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001111.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001115.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001116.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001117.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001118.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001119.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001122.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001120.jpg http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/Ahmotorsport/WP_001121.jpg Edited July 28, 2012 by Ahmotorsport
