Carbon Fibre Hood

Hellooo

I'm gonna be ordering a fibreglass tail gate to replace mine that was poorly painted and bent in transit :(

Same chap can get fibre hoods, the plan is def to either get a glass or carbon hood, if I went carbon I'd leave it its stock colour because that's a look I like, fibre glass hood I'd paint to match car.

So I guess I'm asking what's peoples opinions on my car having a black hood?

Cheers

Same here I wouldn't go buying light weight body parts because the only function for them is track use if you are going to use your car for normal road use don't bother! Maybe the full carbon fibre bonnet but not the tailgate! Tell you what you could do is buy my rs2000 bulges and get them welded on yours that would look awesome :D lol

Hang on, hold your horses :) I'm getting a fibre glass tailgate because I need a new tailgate, I'm not getting a carbon tailgate. My current one needs alot of panel beating and respraying, the quote I'm getting work out less than buying a brand new fibre glass tailgate and just having is sprayed. Weight loss isn't a consideration but a bonus, kinda offsets the twin 10" sub in the boot. There are no breakers round here doing tailgates from Escorts, they crush em straight away so I'm limited to getting a second hand one by post and I'd rather just get a fibre one, seems like a no brainer, just needs painting and glass.

Again, carbon look hood question was regarding it's cosmetic appeal and not any potential performance boost, again because I would like a new one cause mine needs touching up and respraying to look perfect and it seemed a cool idea to get a new one rather than the hassle of having mine fixed up or getting a mint one for respray.

Does seem like most people don't like the look of a black hood on a blue car, I kinda do but I am leaning towards the more conservative option of a fibre glass one painted up same colour as the car.

What's the price for one of those?

I'm not a fan of CF hoods on dark cars. Generally only works on white or similar bright colours so you get a nice contrast.

Yeh, this is my concern although my car is quite light blue I'm not sure about it which is why I posted. Not sure on cost yet, if I choose to get one that will be a factor but if I really want one it wont matter.

Currently I'm settled for glass hood and painting anyway but I was tempted by a carbon one and yeh wrapping is an option but it looks good but i hate any 'faking it' mods.

If your getting a glass fibre tailgate, make sure you check it properly as some I've seen have been poorly finished and take a lot of prep work to get them to look right and fit right.

Would an option be having a carbon fibre wrap done on your bonnet, could someone not photoshop your car for you with a carbon fibre bonnet to give you an idea what it looks like.

Getting a fibreglass boot makes sense if yours is nakard. Plus like you said, the lightweight factor is just a bonus. As for the bonnet, go for the carbon if you want carbon i.e love the look of it. Dont colour code it either otherwise you just have a lighter bonnet which looks the sameas yours now, which frankly isnt worth doing.

Has p4u1 still got his for sale click would look good in amparo or carbon wrapped to help hide the aerocatches.

seen minirotty's bootlids on rs2000-16v.com, they do look good but do they need work to fit all the electrics and other bits that would be fitted to a road going cars bootlid.

He told me they were exact like for like, my stuff will just transfer over fine, are you suggesting otherwise?

Some prep work is better than getting a already painted metal one sent in from somewhere, such a mess was made of my current one.

Like I said I hate 'faking it' mods, I wouldn't ever wrap something, it it looks like carbon it has to be carbon.

Honest opinion is simply wait for a used bonnet & tailgate to turn up (it will)

If your going to paint both it will be cheaper than fibreglass and carbon fibre, unpainted will look gash & unfinished (bit like those taxi's that swap doors & panels around lol).

On the subject of wrapping I saw it demonstrated at Oulton Park Modified Live & it's an awesome (but expensive) look.

I wanted sorted before the Ford Fair and as I said last time I found a mint tailgate it got fked on its way here. It's such a heavy thing to move about as well.

Anyways, this was about how a carbon hood would look on my car....
