hicksy
Its been over 3 years since i have owned an Escort, and i quite fancied another. This was for advertised locally the other week and i was quite interested, it was then advertised at a cheap price because the engine had developed a knocking noise. It has come with a replacement engine so i had to buy it Once i got it home i checked the oil and there was Fcuk all on the dipstick, i thought id try topping it up and it took 3 litres!! The engine was making a hell of a noise before i put the oil in, its a bit quieter now but the damage has been done Ill get the replacement engine in it this week so it should be back on the road soon Heres my £500 RS2000, its no minter but i think it was worth the money http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1302.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1305.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1307.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1310.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1311.jpg Ignore the exhaust being wonky, its not on the mounts properly http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1312.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1313.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/tomhicks1/IMG_1314.jpg It needs a good polish up, but it has potential Comments welcome good or bad Edited November 11, 2012 by hicksy
tomsy
Any ford with an rs badge attached to its rear end bought for only £500 is imo a good buy especially with an interior looking as good as yours

hicksy
good buy, especially with a replacement engine, hope she's alright underneath. I think so Well, ive not got the carpet out yet I know the chap that sold it last year, he had it for quite a few years actually, i was speaking to him and he said that he cut off and welded in 2 brand new rear chassis rails last year. He wasnt fond of just patching them up so he put new ones on, its not the cleanest thing, but its cleaner than the GTi that i had a few years ago, theres plenty of potential in it

horizon
I think the pressure relief valve on these are known to come loose which then allows it to dump it's oil
bongo
I think the pressure relief valve on these are known to come loose which then allows it to dump it's oil the pressure relief valve is the most common engine failure problem. it unscrews and oil pressure drops to about 20 psi roughly, which is not good. good news on the chassis rails, could possibly be a very nice car with a bit of attention. hicksy
I did think that about the pressure relief valve, but there is no signs of oil anywhere in the engine bay. I think it's just the previous owner not checking the oil, coupled with an engine that probably burns oil lol
