Sierra Project

hey all,

Since breaking my escort and going boring with my diesel mondeo ive had the urge for another toy and since i had been recently bitten by the drifting bug when this sierra came up for grabs at a bit of a bargain I just had to have it! now i know this is an escort site, but i thought you may be interested and I like having a thread I can look back on what ive done lol.

not the prettiest i know but for what i wanna do with it, it will do very well

the original plan was to just slap my LSD on that i have for my other sierra long term project and go for a skid, but i ended up buying a roll cage and seats, then some suspension, then some wheels etc etc

so here is some pics of my current progress

fitted a new rear bumper as the car came with a cosworth bumper which would be better suited to my other sierra, btw, sierra rear bumpers are really hard to get hold of, took me 2 months to find this one, will be painting it myself when the time is right.

Fitted cosworth steering wheel

then in went the roll cage, not bolted in as yet but atleast its in the car out of the way

mk5 rs2000 seats on sierra runners ready to go in, funny story with these, i sold these to sk8xtrm as part of a deal to fit a 2.0 into my escort, many years ago!, well they have changed hands many times since and now i have them back lol

then came the front suspension, -30mm (apparently) gmax springs, also note the new wheels, but unfortunately to fit these you need to run 10mm spacers with extended studs, same for the back except you also need to grind the calipers a little

wanted to run these as the car only had 120bhp when it left the factory and probably less now so i want to give it the best chance of spinning them back wheels i can.

so thats how it sits now, next thing to do is drop the rear axle off, im going to fit the new diff, new brake lines and make the wheels fit off the car, ive also ordered a hydraulic handbrake which should be with me soon, then make up some plates and buy some new nuts and bolts to bolt the cage in then take it for MOT.

quite looking forward to having a car which is a bit of fun for a change lol.

Also the reason i have to run spacers are the brakes are too big to go under the wheels, if i had a 1.6 sierra with smaller front disks and drums they wouldnt be needed

Solution. You want THESE

Fitting RS 4 spokes is a nightmare and TBH they're not the best for drifting purposes - not the toughest ones if you know what I mean...

Revolutions on the other hand are just brilliant. Lighter, tougher, no hassle.

BTW what CWP are you running now ? I heard WWRS can do 5:1 for £420 this year.

Im doing it on a bit of a budget, i like 4 spokes, they came up cheap and i like them on sierras, not getting involved with drifting much, just after a bit of fun, if i thought i would get the car in my garage i would use a welded diff and be done with it lol

Not clued up on cwp tbh, no idea what kind of ratios mean what etc, all i know is the one i have for it is an xr4x4 diff, seen one in action on a mates and tended to work well.
