Every household in the UK is to have pornography blocked by their internet provider unless they choose to receive it, David Cameron is to announce.

right there the tories just made certain they'd lose the next election by alienating 50% of the entire population.

I thought they were taking the Pee with this "ice cream van" proposed ban thingie I just heard about but this is the final straw

Im sure it will be easy enough to click a tickbox on your ISPs homepage to activate it.Or a phonecall at the most. I'd like to see decent parental controls for the internet though, including youtube

About time something like this was put in place.

Why?

Because there are many households ignorant and unknowingly allowing unfiltered porn to all connected devices.

In today's world of kids with various wifi devices such as mobiles, ipods, games consoles it isn't always clear just how easy it is for little 9 year old johnny to be streaming pornhub in his room.

For the rest of is it will be stupidly simple to opt in via our providers members section so nothing imposed there.

I'm all for porn but also all for ensuring children don't get access so easily available atm.

Technology is moving so fast that it's becoming difficult to regulate it quick enough.

I agree with this, the amount of kids that are more IT savey than their parents, go back 10 years and you would put parental controls on the PC, but now with phones/tablets/games consoles etc its impossible to lock everything down other than at source as has been suggested.

Then people can opt in if they so wish. We have corporate 3G cards at work and they are blocked by default. One quick call to vodaphone to ask for filtering to be removed and its done.

I think parents should take responsibility for their kids, or at least 'opt-in' to this scheme, not have it thrust upon them.

If only it was that simple sid.

I don't disagree that parents should take responsibility but unfortunately not all parents are as computer savvy and not all parents are responsible.

In which case something like this sits in place to protect innocent children and in many cases innocent parents.

Broadband is so available these days being thrown in as part of many subscriptions such as sky that not all household have the knowledge or understanding of what they have sitting there available to all.

It is hardly "thrust" when those who want it need only click a reply from an email or flick a yes/no switch on the providers page.

It's ridiculous to claim parents are responsible for this. If there was no age limit on buying ciggies or porn mags in shops, would you still be bitching at the parents if their 10yr old kids went and bought some? No, of course not.

It needs to be controlled at source. The best idea I can come up with is split the internet in two, have an under 18's, and over 18's, the latter requiring some kind of age verification process. That then stops the issue of kids being able to view illegal content on their mate's devices, well unless their mate is over 18 of course. Yes there will be ways around everything, but this seems one of the best defences, beyond banning all porn from the internet.
