Blizzard030
I have a problem, that annoys me. Is there anyway to tell just by looking under the hood which motor you have? Or are there any so called cosmetic differences.
blacksofstichill
You didn't get a 115BHP XR3i, at least not in the UK anyway. You only got a 105bhp or a 130bhp, 105's have drum rear brakes, 130's have disc rear brakes, provided the rear brakes havent been changed that's the easiest way to spot one or the other without even opening the bonnet. Inlet manifolds are also different but I don't have any pics of those for comparison I'm afraid.
Escort Si-130
The 115bhp was the later 1.8 black top and was in mk6 Si/GTI
bronze4door
my 115bhp si seems to have a silver top in it the 130bhp engine has HO on the inlet manifold i think its stands for high output
Andy 3i
Escorts didn't have black top engines afaik. If they did I've never seen one. The rear brakes are a clue , and yeah, the inlet manifold has HO stamped on the back which is High Output. Other than that I don't think there's a way to tell cosmetically. Or you could use the engine code on the chassis plate

scottybo
if the engines are completely standard, then there will be a sticked on the air intake which states either 105, 115 or 130 the 105 and 130 engines have est efi inlet manifolds. the 115 has a plastic inlet the 105 and 130 were only found in mk5's, none were used in the mk6. the 115 will only be found in the mk6, none were used in the mk5 the 105 inlet manifold will be stamped with 'so' for standard output. and is the same manifold found on the zetec 1.6. the 130 inlet manifold will be stamped with 'ho' on the back, for high output. engines originally equiped with the 105 engine will have drum brakes on the rear as standard. the 130 engined vehicles will have rs style rear discs thats it without pulling the engine apart, in which case you will find that the cams are different and the 130 engines are fitted with oil spray jets just like the 2l

scottybo
U can use an ib5 on a 130 quite happily. After changin the flywheel of course.....and ur right i did forget they were mtx equiped. I was u aware that any cast efi 1.8s made it to the mk6. At that point i thought they were all plastic inlet. I know very few cast efi 1.6s managed to get into a very very early few mk6s.....as i had one but didnt know about 1.8s
ScORTED
yeah the b5/ibs are fine with the 130PS setup. that was what i always used to look for on gumtree/ebay back in the day though the lift reverse collar
Escort Si-130
There were some early mk6 cabriolets with the 130 spec Si engine complete with rear discs. if the engines are completely standard, then there will be a sticked on the air intake which states either 105, 115 or 130 the 105 and 130 engines have est efi inlet manifolds. the 115 has a plastic inlet the 105 and 130 were only found in mk5's, none were used in the mk6. the 115 will only be found in the mk6, none were used in the mk5 the 105 inlet manifold will be stamped with 'so' for standard output. and is the same manifold found on the zetec 1.6. the 130 inlet manifold will be stamped with 'ho' on the back, for high output. engines originally equiped with the 105 engine will have drum brakes on the rear as standard. the 130 engined vehicles will have rs style rear discs thats it without pulling the engine apart, in which case you will find that the cams are different and the 130 engines are fitted with oil spray jets just like the 2l
