JC Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 It looks like I may have to replace my suspension arms, I understand the 1st one, but what are 2 and 3???? The drop links were replaced the day before the MOT: http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx170/magnexed/Scan0072_zpsb1d3c952.jpg and what has happened to Area Six??? What options are there for suspension arms?
Stu Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I think 2/3 mean the rear inner bush on the front arms..
JC Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 I think 2/3 mean the rear inner bush on the front arms.. cheers, My garage were a little confused (they don't MOT they take it to the place round the corner) I've google'd the answer and there doesn't seem a definitive answer... think I may call the MOT station next week
Ahmotorsport Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Well, your escort doesnt have a drag link. However i assume they mean track rod end.
etrebus Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 some mot testers call the inner rack joint a drag link joint confusing ??
JC Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 some mot testers call the inner rack joint a drag link joint confusing ?? what's the "inner rack joint" is that a joint on the suspension arm?
etrebus Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 some mot testers call the inner rack joint a drag link joint confusing ?? what's the "inner rack joint" is that a joint on the suspension arm? ball joint on the end of the rack underneath the rack boots
scottybo Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 i read that as drop links.the best one i had to decipher was for my bmw 'osf rear bush has slight play' in the end i they told me that of the 3 bush's on the lower arms....the one at the back was a bit worn. there should be like a standardized term for a lot of these items

demented Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 A quick search on ebay and a drag link appear to be track rod ends. Also mentioned by Ahmotorsport.
hicksy Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) They mean track rod ends mate, your car wouldnt have drag links.....because it doesnt have a steering box. If it was the rack ends (the arms off the rack) then they would be listed as inner steering ball joints. I work in a factors and get this all the time. Basically you need both track rod ends, and a lower ball joint Edited March 2, 2014 by hicksy
Stu Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 and what has happened to Area Six??? Still doing some stuff..
Escort_Kid Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 some mot testers call the inner rack joint a drag link joint confusing ?? what's the "inner rack joint" is that a joint on the suspension arm? ball joint on the end of the rack underneath the rack boots Im an MOT tester as my job and this is exactly what it is! Many many people get confused about this definition but this is what we have to put it down as because that is what the option is described as on the VTS system, it can also be described as the inner tie rod, but it is not your track rod end 100% as this would've been selected on the VTS and described as exactly that. It is this part on your steering rack: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb100/Mario_and_a_240/IMG_2249.jpg http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mY05r3Bgc1rzRw2PQ39IU0A.jpg Hope that clears it up for you Quick ebay search for you, to show you the exact part your after: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-MK5-...=item416fae0ddf
demented Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 So am I right in thinking that the "drag link" inserts into the rack n pinion assembly under/through the rubber boot and forms the steerings inner ball joint? To be honest, don't think I've known what to call em.
