Depending on what happens the next 4 days, this may be my latest purchase

can rob that of a lot of bits. Then will only be £500 worth of bits away from running a better 4x4 system than you get in a "proper" Escort Cosworth

big thanks to the XROC for lots of help and technical data

hmmmm. May be interested depending on what happens the next couple of week. I've got my eye on one or 2 cars atm, including that XR4x4, it may go dirt cheap then would only need to buy a few bits extra. Although of course, I'd need the engine seperately

I would be willing to travel anywhere in the UK for the right car though, yes

Your still going to need the engine though? Dunno why you dont just wait until you have found a decent cossie and use everything from it. Even with that, your still going to have to replace parts of the running gear to allow it to be used with cossie bits - pretty sure most of that isn't gonna withstand 450BHP.

Simply because whatever engine I have, it will be freshly built. If another comes along like the freshly built 450BHP A1 Rally Sports Engine, I would buy something like that. if not, I take a suitable base engine and build that upto spec

In the earlier XR4x4's like the white one, the front propshaft wouldn't take much above 300BHP, but that's a cheap enough swap to a cossie one. On the later model, like the black one, it's the same as a Cossie item tho, so I'm laughing

Also the 7" diff on the XR4x4 is much stronger than the Cadbury's 7.5" diff you get on a Cossie, but that I won't really be worried about anyway

Also, the longer driveshafts on the XR4x4 are better than Cossie items, a lot of the big power Cossies have these fitted as they don't pop as easily as they are only on a spline

and finally, the swing arm bushes arent rubber in the XR, they use a roller bearing as standard and is better than a poly bush.

so basically, no, going for a Cossie wouldn't be better at all aside from the fact it comes with the "right" engine, but as said, not really that bothered
