finessescort
Hi, I have recently moved to Banbury with the missus. We've moved everything in, plugged in the all important tv but freeview wasnt working. I bought a new aerial blah blah blah... rang comet up and found out Banbury is a "red area" for signal... meaning i cant get digital channels. Now! I found out to resolve this i should get freesat, (same as freeview but works from a satelite and not and aerial, so ive been told) Obviously i will need a satelite in order to use this, so i have a Coaxial cable coming through my wall... am i right in thinking that this is connected to a satelite??I forgot to mention i live on the groundfloor of flats... so checking the roof is a bit of an issue... Hope someone can help I've looked online and cant find anything Much love!

Simon69
If you live in an apartment block you may find that the block you are in runs off a communial dish so in answer to your question the answer should be yes ps check the actual coax, Satelite coax differs from normal coax Edited August 10, 2010 by Simon69

Stu
FreeSat isn't quite the same as FreeView, you get a slightly different set of channels. However, you can pick up more channels than just FreeSat with a dish and receiver (astra/eurobird satellite broadcasts more than just the freesat selection). You get mostly the same channels, you dont get Dave channel for instance but you do get movie channels such as Horror, True movies, CBS channels, Movies4men etc. I bought a Freesat HD complete kit for the World cup from Aldi for £80 and its been great, included the HD box, dish, fitting kit & Satelite finder, even has a USB slot so an external Hard drive can be added. bluliz
Look at the connector on the end of the coax, Freesat uses the same threaded sky connectors, and iirc freeview uses the ancient UHF push connectors. That will tell you whats on the other end of the cable. Edited August 10, 2010 by bluliz
Lee_2f2f
As Simon says check your Coax cable. If you still get stuck, take a picture of said wires coming through your wall and your Wall socket for the TV and let us have a gander. Look at the connector on the end of the coax, Freesat uses the same threaded sky connectors, and iirc freeview uses the ancient UHF push connectors. That will tell you whats on the other end of the cable. Easier way than I explained lol.
LedVenT
I just moved house and found there was no arieal only a sky dish, so I got a freesat box from maplins for 40 quid.I plugged it in and tuned it with no problems and found the first few channels were all arabic/Indian so randomly hit a few numbers and found CBS which was showing the St Andys open. All good so far.Now baring in mind this was 3 in the afternoon, I punch in a few more numbers just as the wife walks in and finds me on bustybabes. So I quickly flip up a couple and land on dagenham slags or something. So if you have kids about or a prudish missus you'll need to delete a few channels. There's no Quest or yesterday either
Lee_2f2f
I found that freesat is mostly contained with foreign channels, hence why I owned a Humix HD box less than 2 hours and took it STRAIGHT back to the store, came home, phoned Sky and reinstated my account. http://www.freesat4you.com/images/freesat_logos_infos.jpg-for-web-LARGE.jpg Edited August 16, 2010 by Lee_2f2f
Stu
I found that freesat is mostly contained with foreign channels Incorrect. "FreeSat" has the following channels: http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main If you so happen to also tune into the other transponders broadcast across Europe, then that's your choice! Nothing to do with FreeSat!
Lee_2f2f
The channel list has changed alot since I Vaugly owned a box but I still think the channel list is sh!te, there is hardly anything I would watch on there. Just had a good luck around on there website, because I am contemplating Freesat for Belgium (not now, its sh!te still) or just take my multiroom Sky Plus and HD box with me.. I found that freesat is mostly contained with foreign channels Incorrect. If you read my post again Stu. you will see how I said I found that the channel list mostly contained foreign stuff. also my Later post (before I seen your post) I also say It's changed since I got a box (I got one when they first arrived) Edited August 16, 2010 by Lee_2f2f
