Naylor2006
Yesterday my fuel filler cap was nicked along with my mates Escort one also down the road. No fuel stolen, but both caps taken, I imagine they just wanted the caps because if they were going for fuel why not replace the cap so we wouldn't know no different. Got another from the scrappy but still feels rank, first thing that's been done to my car since I owned it. Just worried that this one will get nicked now, shame you cant lock it with a different key.
sidrick
I'd buy a generic aftermarket locking one right away. I wouldn't be worried about fuel coming out, rather something going in :|

Stu
How do they remove a locked filler cap? Or are they not locked? I can't remember!

Any Escort key will unlock it, I just got another one from the scrappy and it works with my key so we can all assume that there isnt any electronic keycode system. tomsy
Dont understand the mentality of someone who would take a filler cap without taking the petrol. Its not nice knowing that your car has been targeted by some low life scroat, makes you wonder what they'l do next hopefully they were just chancers and wont be back. Halfords The same as any old ford key would lock any old ford. I used to use my mondeo key to lock my mate in his escort, and when he opened the door to tell me to fcuk off his alarm would go off

We use our VW van key on our Ford Cargo and a screwdriver on the Cortina.
hicksy
I think that the caps are just worn out and buggered. Ive had plenty of escorts and it was only the key for the cap that unlocked it

Naylor2006
Im a bit confused, seems like half the people ive spoken to say any key will remove a fuel cap and the other half saying it shouldnt. The new one I got from scrappy worked with my key and my mate had his nicked too. Im just gonna get that one from Halfords or something simular off ebay with a completely different key. Naylor2006
At first when I had my fuel filler cap stolen I was pretty angry, bah got a replacement from the scrappy which has been working fine, locking and unlocking until tonight on my way to my night shift. Im so skint I cant afford a proper replacement till pay day, the idea is to get one that has its own seperate key, I worked out i'd only need to fill the tank twice before then anyway. So I'm at the fuel station about 5 miles from my house filling up, I've removed the cap fine no problem, I finish filling up and go to replace the fuel cap, place it in position and go to turn the key, it moves a little way then stops and the key wont release, turn back the unlock way and still nothing. Long story short the cap completely seized up, I'm on my way to work and now my keys stuck in the filler cap, I try one last time to lock it in position and bam the key snaps out of the plastic housing, oh fk. I go and pay for my fuel and ask if they have a pair of pliers which they do, I spent the next 20 minutes trying to work the metal key free but got nothing, garage then kindly provided me with a spare fuel cap. So cars stuck at the station with the steering lock on so I could only push it in a straight line to the edge, out of the way enough luckily, so spare keys time, well my spare keys are with my mechanic another 7 miles away as he often leaves my car parked up for me to go and collect with my other set of keys, seemed like a good idea to leave him the spare set rather than leaving a key under a tyre or something. I call him no answer (I find out later hes watching new batman film), my lady came out picked me up and we went to his parents house where he works which is where the keys are, naturally she is wondering why I ever thought it a good idea to leave my spare keys anywhere but home, I tried to explain but wasnt worth it, anyway no one was in. Fk. Ended up just going to my rents and stealing my mums car for the night. Mr Mechanic has now posted said keys through my parents door after the film, Ill take mums car back and get my keys and ask nicely for a lift all the way back to the fuel station where my car currently is sitting rather prone, then I can take me car home and go bed. My main anger is but for having my fuel filler cap stolen I wouldnt be in this situation, it was an inconvenience at first but tonight it turned into I wanna kill who ever did this, little shites....Some serious bad luck and error in judgement, I shouldnt have left my spare keys somewhere else, if they were at home I could have been on the move on my way to work in my own car after roughly 10 minutes, in the end I was an hour late, my man wasnt so bothered though, we have a good shift team like that. Bit of a boring story I guess but I feel better now for telling it. Now I need a new key made, not sure how though, being that I have a converted escort to 2.0 im not sure how the chip works and stuff? Any advice. Any advice. What a sh1te nite You dont need a chipped key as you are using a pre pats system. I used to make looms for them that ran with no key so you will be fine mate. Going back to the cap issue, who ever told you any key will fit a LOCKING petrol cap is not understanding its purpose of being LOCKING We all know the risks of using the wrong tibby key. I might have a healthy filler cap lock here with key. Do you want me to look for it, yours for free! Sparkie
