Just for fun, these are the internal differences between internal and external PATS ECU's.. unfortunately I don't have a photo handy of an early external EDIS one for comparison:

I also show for reference that they changed from on-board EPROM to Flash at some point. I have the ability to erase and re-program the EPROM's but not the Flash chips. This means I can 'chip' an earlier ECU without needing a module that plugs in the back, although I do and can do modules and also have emulators to hook into the J3 port on the back of the ECU for real-time tuning. However, this isn't something i'm interested in doing these days.

Im agreeing with you here and to backup my previous statement, you can run these early units that Naylor is using from a home made loom as no immobiliser fitted in them. So no chip key required.

I cant see how ppl get confused about these early ECU's, i have run them in many conversions using the mk1 mondeo engine loom and two relays. Its child play :baby:

Back to Naylors problems, I Bought a lock set from fleabay for £40 delivered for mine as i didnt want different keys on any new locks i needed. I dont know how u feel about your situation but...

by the time u bought 2 keys for the car locks (1 inc spare!) then a new petrol cap you must be half way to a whole lockset using one key for all. Just my thoughts mate :thumb:

My question was whether the 'pre-pats' name is used to describe an ECU with External Pats because Internal Pats ECU's are newer, ie an ECU pre = before Internal Pats became more commonly used.

I understand external and internal pats now just interested were this 'pre pats' term came from.

Anyways, I was just gonna get a new key cut to match my current one, I want to get a totally seperate key for filler cap, I dont want another situation where a faulty filler cap renders my car un startable without a spare key which for obvious reasons I wont have on me.

I want 'lukepinkney92' 's wheels

Lol

I haven't got a picture but he's had the spokes sprayed black glossy now and they look even better now. This is his third set of rims now so chances are he'll get bored of them soon. I'll let him know you commented.

Do let him know that I'll happily buy it off him once he gets bored of them.

Right then, just finished ordering a bunch of stuff to get car finalised for the Ford Fair

  • Lower arms
  • Inner CV boots
  • Castrol Oil for change
  • Oil filter for change
  • Fuel filter (why not, could be as old as the car)
  • New full pump/sender unit gasket
  • MK5 Fiesta fuel pump
  • Brand New Idle Control Valve (tried cleaning it and all that sh1t, idle is still not perfect)
  • Brand new Throttle Position Sensor
  • Another tailgate, this time originally in my colour and not painted by a gypsy
  • Performance Ignition Leads
  • New plugs

So its gonna be a busy week or so, hopefully all sorted by next friday so I can have my tracking sorted before heading to the Ford Fair to meet all you lovely people, been looking forward to it for a year and so glad I managed to pull the car back from the death to be pretty much finished for the show.

Bad news is I dont have the money to refurb the Cossie alloys so the crime will be arriving with curbed rims which kinda lets it down a bit.

I will post pictures of the above in progress as we go.

Thanks Sid for the DC Performance recommendation, they got leads going well cheap.

Ive been thinking recently if the TB was cleaned when we changed the engine however judging by this I think the answer is obvious, most likely a result of having a wank sh1t old tired filter.

Bet it idles better now

Wont know really, the problem only occurs once the cars been run up and I wont be testing it till all the works done. What I will say is that one of the first things I did after buying the car was clean the ICV and TB, made no difference at all, still cut out sometimes and idled poorly, which is why im replacing some more bits too.

The whole engines been changed and the problem remained so it must be something inlet or electrical or simular, hope ive got it this time.

Im really looking forward to fordfair got my car looking as good as im gonna get it, lots of jobs to do but with only having 1 day off a week and relying on the weather to be dry on that day progress has been slow this summer. Lets all pray for a dry day on the 12th so we can have a good day out at silverstone.

I work a 9 week 24/7 rota which is front heavy, work longer days and weeks and when finally you get to the end of week you've accumulate so many hours you get 9 days off working weekends only, it's when I plan all the big work in.

Will be nice to meet you, what do people do if it rains, just sit in cars? JC's 5dr could come in handy lol
