Naylor2006
I hope you guys who are removing PATS are letting your insurance company know that the factory immobilisor is no longer fitted ;-) Yep, I've also told them about my Clifford Concept system which has an immobiliser, quite an annoyingly short one at the moment. I'm sure you'll tell me now that that doesn't matter or something, always something up the sleeve Edited July 23, 2012 by Naylor2006

SLEEMAN
how about don't remove the pats system at all just tape the transponder from the original key to the pats system therefore you can change the barrell and not worry about the pats system simples!!!! Naylor2006
That would mean getting a different ecu and all sorts. Anyways, surely now I'm in the easiest situation, my keys only have to be cut to match, no chipping stuff involved.
Naylor2006
27C round here today, that sort of heat where the air is thick, anyways, washed the car of the the fking flys that seem to be about at the moment and parked it next to my old one which 'lukepinkney92' has owned for the last year or so. ScORTED
yours is pre pats right? Wrong... external pats with the wiring loom adjusted to disable; there are no "pre pats" 2.0 zetec ecu's
Naylor2006
yours is pre pats right? Wrong... external pats with the wiring loom adjusted to disable; there are no "pre pats" 2.0 zetec ecu's When people say pre-pats aren't they refering to the ECU being pre (before) PATS was internal? So yeh you fit an ECU which has no internal pats so but....in fact I've confused myself now. So why has it been so widely know as pre-pats then? Not disputing the point just interested how the wrong information carries for so long.
Stu
The proper term is internal or external PATS, and also internal or external EDIS. They are the main changes on EEC-IV ECU's. The 2.0 conversion ECU's are external PATS, internal EDIS. Edited July 26, 2012 by Stu
Stu
Just for fun, these are the internal differences between internal and external PATS ECU's.. unfortunately I don't have a photo handy of an early external EDIS one for comparison: External PATS: http://i.imgur.com/EBApZ.jpg Internal PATS: http://i.imgur.com/GAwXj.jpg I also show for reference that they changed from on-board EPROM to Flash at some point. I have the ability to erase and re-program the EPROM's but not the Flash chips. This means I can 'chip' an earlier ECU without needing a module that plugs in the back, although I do and can do modules and also have emulators to hook into the J3 port on the back of the ECU for real-time tuning. However, this isn't something i'm interested in doing these days.
