Audi S2 Coupe - 2.2 20v Turbo

Would having some 'faults' on there not maybe set the ECU to a default setting, I wouldn't go as far as saying a 'limp mode' but something similar and clearing the maybe letting the engine perform correctly?

That was my reckoning, but I don't know enough about it really. It's not like it's running perfectly, just 'better'.

My 3B engine runs a distributer rather than the individual coils that the later ABY uses. The original distributers run a plastic gear which fails over time, putting the timing out. Audi still supply a recon. unit with an upgraded metal gear since it was such a common failure.

These:

Give you an idea of the new vs broken original.

When I had the car in to my friend, he said that it could be the distributer making the car run so rough. If the camshaft position sensor appears when I next read the codes, then it's very likely it's the timing, and therefore probably the distributer, rather than a sensor failure.

Both the N75 and N80 are valves that control the turbo and wastegate functions, so they could be having an adverse effect on boost.

PAS cooler pipe removed today. No obvious fractures but blowing in one end with the other covered and you can hear air escaping through little pin-holes.

Bad news lads :(

With the car using more PAS fluid than it does petrol, the handbrakes not working, the diff knackered and it running like rubbish, I thought long and hard about it and took the only sensible decision that was open to me, bearing in mind my lack of finances and need to buy a house this year.

I loved the 8v as it was a good, honest car, but could see why it was boring to other folk. The S2 is a dog in comparison, but with a lot of potential if it gets the right care. You don't see many on the road, and with the potential to run 350bhp on standard internals, they're a match for most things on the road :)

Should have some updates this weekend if the replacement hazard stalk and ICV arrive!

The hazards and indicators on the car don't work so I sourced a replacement stalk (not the easiest task since it also has the trip computer controls) and set to work:

Hooked up the replacements and voila!

The indicators work, but unfortunately the rear wash/wipe is almost permanently on. Waiting on another set arriving.

While the wheel was off I took the opportunity to fit the replacement clocks that were supplied with the car in order to (hopefully) fix the dead rev gauge and misreading fuel gauge.

Old one:

Replacement one:

Mine has 4 connections and the replacement just two, so will have to source another one, which I'm sure will be quite a mission.
