"First up is a stripped-out Clubsport, designed to wave farewell to the current car in spectacular style. And then there’s a brand new RS, based on the Focus unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show.

The RS Clubsport (opposite) will arrive before the end of the year. Limited to 500 models and priced at around £35,000, it will get a 350bhp, 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo. There will also be lightweight racing seats, lowered and stiffened suspension and sticky tyres, plus a dramatic paintjob. With that extra punch but fewer kilos to carry around, it should sprint from 0-60mph in five seconds. As with Renault’s previous Mégane R26.R, it will be a fitting send-off for one of the best RS models in history.

Its replacement, the all-new RS (above), will be crammed with technology, and offer fans a totally different experience to the current car. A revolutionary hybrid system will give it the option of four-wheel drive.

The outgoing RS’s much-loved 2.5-litre unit will make way for a 2.0 EcoBoost direct-injection turbo in the new car. This will be teamed with an electric motor to offer more muscle, and cut emissions and fuel consumption."

now - those i like! but a hybrid? never thought i's see the day!

considering what they managed to pull off with the Tesla a year or so back I kinda saw it coming myself, just not this soon.

surely the whole RS Hybrid approach is just another gimmick?, probably the worse car they could chose to do it with also

Why? The publicity will be huge. And if they actually pull of an amazing car......then people might stop thinking the that electric/hybrid cars are all like the Prius (no brakes and a sticking throttle pedal)

because the Tesla lot have all stated that they will need atleast another 10yrs to refine their technology to a level were it becomes as practical as a fossil fueled motor.

Sure it'd be great to have a Tesla like lecky motor to make your car fly along with your high powered engine but theyve admitted that their current development level makes the idea of coupling their technology with petrol technology (a hybrid) still impractical as the current weight of their setups coupled with the weight required for a petrol engine and its systems in one vehicle would literally cripple the vehicle power to weight ratio and make it a more or less pointless endeavor as it would no longer be a performance car.

Granted theres no indication that the new RS hybrid would be using the same tech as the Tesla but given that the creators of the Tesla are the furthest along the development line in that particular technology using them as an example seemed apt.

imo it appears that ford are gonna be making their newest performance fast hatchback purposefully slower to please the tree huggers

its a case of throwing another icon onto the sacrificial pyre to better please the greenies

ps,

WHERES MY FECKIN SIG GONE???
