Project Pimp.

Had a Christmas day burn in the Imp today. Did the longest trip i've ever done in it. Probably a good 15-20 miles, maybe more! Didn't over heat. I was with a 200BHP Mk2 Golf and a 106 GTI so they pulled over to let me catch up, switched off and had a chat, then she wouldn't start. Got out, checked for spark, which it had. At this point they wondered where i was and came back for me. No fuel at the carb, pulled the pipe off the pump and and nothing was coming out. Ahh. Took the lid off and it was full of cr4p. Cleaned it out and away she went.

Boxing day repairs then it is then!

Also. The gauge was getting high on temp but it didn't over heat. But on the way back after cleaning the rubbish out it didn't go above half on the gauge. So perhaps lean running is to do with the overheating. I may just fit the ignition and clean the carb tomorrow, fit gauge too perhaps and see what happens!

Took Blue Thunder down to work today. Took the fuel pipes off, one had disintegrated, so replaced it and put the filter before the pump.

Then fitted the electronic ignition, very easy job indeed, bolted straight in and wiring was perfect length. Good little kit from Accuspark there! She runs like a dream now, much smoother.

Also, for all of you out there, after i got back, my step brother was here, so i spoke with him about the troubles and showed him the picture of the pump. He said ahh was it like a brown jelly? It was, he said he's had no end of customers with old cars coming in with jelly in their carbs and filters and they've all used Tesco's super unleaded. Which is also what i use. So stay away from it!

Unfortunately i filled up just before that....

Oh dear, it was all going so well.

I picked up my friend from work tonight. We got in the car and my friend was putting the seatbelts on and she said "Owch! She (the car) just bit me the bitch!" I said "Don't call her that! She won't like it!" About half a mile away from her house there was an almighty BOOOOM! and the car started shaking and became uncontrollable. So i pulled up in the bus station and it started it chucking it down. Got out and sure enough, flat tyre on the OSF. Began nursing it back to my friends house. Then the rain got worse with a little thunder. I said "You see, you insult Blue Thunder, she breaks and brings the thunder!"

I found it all so strange how it all matched up perfectly like that. Anyway, i got out at her house and had a proper look:

Im absolutely skint at the moment, but it should be pay day today, or tomorrow at the latest (I hope) so she'll be off the road for a few days as i have to order the tyres.

Old tyres mate

every single build like your imp will have its teething problem, just a case of working to iron them all out, the tyre going is an unfortunate bugger though

last year i had a brand new tyre, literally less than a day old, went in a pothole and it tore through the sidewall, couldnt then be repaired. £80 down the shitter

Yeah mate I know. Im not bothered. Im only worried it may have done the wheel in.

got a tyre at work today. Ill fit it tomorrow. Just a cheap nasty one. Will buy the same rubber as the rear when pay day arrives.

scotty

if a pothole causes tyre and/or wheel damage then the local authority is liable and can be made to compensate. i suggest getting a camera out and hunting out your receipts!

Good advice right there.

Unlucky with the tyre. Buying them is the equivalent of buying pants/socks. Dont want to get them but cant go without! Imps looking good though.....so's the Golf ;)

Yeah mate, not overly keen on buying tyres, plus i'm a tart and won't put cr4p on it (other than temporarily)
