not sure what the fixation is with the money side. His parents are obviously minted, and if they wanna spoil him, fine!!! I with Sid, jealous :D

you're still a fool with cars though

Why would I be jealous of it id rather work and save for what i have at least i can say its mine. All the cars we have in our family are bought and paid for with my own money not someone else's. so what if his parents are minted, then they should know better. Shouldn't expect to have everything handed to you on a plate.

He will never learn the value of money, be more like a spoilt Brat.

..... My escort went because crank shaft oil seal was leaking, both arches were rusted .....

cheaper to fix that buy a new BMW. I lost my crank seal and garage did it for £120 with new belts using genuine parts....

Shame your escort went, was the best car you've had yet in my opinion

.. even if they're on benefits?

are they?

yes they both get DLA as they are both disabled however my dad is a business analyst and despite being on long term sick leave with reduced salary, still earns a decent salary.

My parents aren't minted and I have to pay them back making it my own. Escort had other issues and after dad crashed in to it was too much to repair.

yup, the carbon domed ones are legal as well and look fooookin sweet :D.

They're not legal and demonplates themselves have stated this.

dude: I got my set from demonplates last August and they stated that they are completely legal. written under the domed plates: "As well as offering the usual "flat" text style in the Manadatory font, Demon plates also offers 3 other, completely legal, text styles. To view a close up of them, along with a description, simply move your mouse pointer over the different images above." "When using our plate builder one of the styles of text you have the option of choosing is '3D Carbon Domed'. If you choose the 3D Carbon Domed for your plates the picture here shows exactly how the digits will appear on the finished plates. These digits display a carbon fibre effect and yes, they do stick out from the plate hence the word 'domed'. 3D Carbon Domed digits are the Rolls Royce of registration plates and look outstanding!"

don't know where you heard that from???

It's what demon plates have been telling people on the phone recently as their customers have reported getting points for those plates.

I find that highly unlikely as demon plates fully adhere to DVLA regulations and all assosiated laws regarding number plates - on this occassion Stu, I beleive you are talking out of your a*se my friend! They would have made sure they where legal with the DVLA before even posting them for sale! Bit of an accademic point anyway as the chap ha already bought his plates for the mo!

Calm down girls.

I think strictly they are illegal, but I'd say you were more likely to get pulled than fail an MOT.

When replacing your number plate you should make sure that the correct material has been used to manufacture the plate. It should be made from a reflective material. Front number plates must display black characters on a white background and rear number plate must display black characters on a yellow background.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that meet the British Standard requirements.

Characters on a number plate can be 3D, providing they meet all the other requirements, but honeycomb or other background patterns are not allowed.

Also, the characters on a number plate need to be a standard height and width.

Your number plate should show the correct:

character height - 79 millimetres

character width - 50 millimetres (except the figure 1 or letter I)

character stroke - 14 millimetres

space between characters - 11 millimetres

space between groups - 33 millimetres

top, bottom and side margins - minimum 11 millimetres

space between vertical lines - 19 millimetres

You are allowed 3D lettering, so Rockerrob666 is right, but your lettering has to be solid black (not patterned like carbon fibre), so Stu is more right.

For what it's worth, 3D carbon plates are for Corsas and Saxos down at the local Maccy D's. Standard dealership plates all the way :thumb:

I'm not tryin to be rude, but demon plates confirmed in writing that these plates are legal and adhere to all laws regarding number plates, otherwise they wouldn't sell them. I am fully aware that there are coppers out there that will try and write you up for anythin if they have a bee in their bonnet or you've pee'd them off. but a couple of over-zelous coppers, a law does not make. I've had coppers pull me and try and write me up for stuff in the past but when pressed they admit that there's nothin wrong with it, they just hate pulling someone over and not giving them a ticket. I make sure that everything on the car is road legal and complies with all insurance / law requirements, if I'm not sure then I don't do it. the 3D lettering and the carbon lettering that Halfords do is completely road legal and thats not solid black??? so why is this any different. Okay, I take back my statement as it was incorrect. Demon Plates have not stated they're not legal. They have stated that they have had customers call them informing them that they have been nicked/fined for using such plates.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what some website says. Or what I say. Or what whoever says. What matters is the fine and points on your license. People can blah blah all day about it but hardly nobody is going to take the matter to court as the legal costs would outweigh the fine amount.

I think it's disgusting how you rape your family's funds to fuel your insane car purchases.

as long as he isn't stealing it, there isn't a problem imo. If they wanna fund him, that's their look out.

so, the BMW was a bit of a nail. Not gonna rip into you for that cos anyone can get caught out with a nail. My Mondeo isn't doing me any favours!!!

stil, I agree with Sidrick, and

My parents have loaned me the money till I sell the BMW and I bought the BMW under value anyway and its had a gearbox over haul, 4 new tyres and inspection 2 service and has parts included to fix front suspension issue and oil and filter for the next service due in 4/5k (2 lights left).

If someone wanted to break it theres a good 4 odd thousand pounds worth of parts as BMW parts are not cheap

Hey, don't knock S60s, I have one.....However ill admit it's no drivers car, and its crappy steering angle Pees me off, swinging it into carparking spaces forwards is mostly impossible without leaving it at a funny angle.

Upgrading the plugs and filter is pointless though, as has been proven by mightycarmods on youtube. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! And the HIDS....WHY??! Theyre not legal and run of the mill RING ultraxenon bulbs (other brands are available) put out enough light for driving in pitch black lanes

I agree, its no drivers car, but it is a nice comfortable way to get around :)

petrol S60's have 10m turning circle, D5's has 11m so parking mine is a doddle :D

irridium plugs have a 10 year service life as opposed to a 2 year life of standard and pipercross/K&N filter allow slightly better flow than paper element but also never need replacing, only cleaning and I have the oil for both.

HIDs are legal. Under MOT rules it says cars fitted with HIDs may have headlight washers, projectors and self levelling and if fitted these must all work.

My mums 99 Astra has none of those and is fitted with HIDs and it passes MOT's and police have no issue as its regularly outside police stations given what she does.

Hate to break it to you but ....they ARE illegal ....and try MUST have not may have and if they arnt fitted to a vehicle with HID or similar lighting systems then its a FAIL
