Death Race: Inferno -

Another prequel to the original and pretty much the same as the second film. Some good fight scenes and OTT deaths, but the driving parts are poor and there's little focus on the cars. If it wasn't for Danny Trejo this film would be crap. 6/10

Here Comes The Boom -

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/26190.jpg

School of Rock but with a fat man fighting. Kevin James obviously worked out for this role, but he's still a big, fat man. James plays a hypocritical biology teacher who takes it upon himself to compete in MMA events in order to raise money to keep the schools music department open.

Bas Rutten's character was really good and there are numerous other MMA/UFC cameos. I don't watch any of that nonsense of a sport, but the cameos are so obvious that you can't miss them, so probably one for fans of the 'sport'.

Barely a single smile raised the whole film, so if you want a good underdog fighting story then watch Real Steel or Warrior, and if you want to watch a comedy that's funny then it's probably best to avoid anything that James or Sandler touch nowadays. 6.75/10

Django Unchained -

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/DjangoUnchainedOfficialPosterPT.jpg

I sat myself down for the latest 'best film ever' last night and it's a good film. That's it, it's good, not amazing, and the reason is Tarantino.

Django Unchained, or as it could be know, Inglorious Basterds with Slaves, is basically 2h 45m of the cast trying to break a record for saying n*gger as much as possible. Waltz and DiCaprio carried this film for large parts, and Samuel L Jackson put in a good shift as well. Great costumes and settings.

Tarantino can f*ck off for the following reasons -

- Insisting on making films multilingual, but then adding subtitles that have a mix of English and the spoken language is pretentious cuntery.

- He's a shite actor, and his appearance in this film, with an Australian accent, was horrific.

- OTT soundtrack in 90% of his films. Great in earlier films, not so now.

- Terrible action scenes, such as the main shootout in this one (and shooting Hitlers face in Basterds), are just tired, ridiculous, pointless crap. 'Oh look, it's like B-movie'. No, f*ck off.

F*ck you Tarantino. Someone else could have made this a better film. 8/10

Lincoln - 8/10

It's surprising that such a significant story in American history has taken so long to be brought to the mainstream (global) audience. I was familiar with the story beforehand, but seeing it come together was something else.

Lincoln is a 2hr 30 history lesson. There is obviously a lot of substance, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have no interest in US history, or the ending of slavery. I really enjoyed it though.

Zero Dark Thirty - 9/10

The hunt for Bin Laden was always gonna be made into a film, and this "version" of events is entertaining if not exactly accurate. (I don't buy into conspiracies as such, but I take some of the scenes in this film with a pinch of salt). Anyway, the first two thirds of the film is all about the hunt, the surveillance, the increasing pressure to find OBL. It's a good insight (imo) into how such an operation is carried out.. the final third is where this film comes to life though. An intense attack on the mansion/fortress where the CIA expect OBL is hiding, which is shot perfectly in a mixture of night vision and first person perspectives.

Skyfall -

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/skyfall_post-6501.jpg

Cliche ridden return of James Bond which attempts to make up for the abortion of a film that was Quantum of Solace. Forever falling into the trap of going into a film with high expectations due to online reviews, I went into this film with high expectations.... and wasn't too disappointed this time.

It's not as good as Casino Royale, suffers from a distinct lack of 'Bond-tech', the new Q looks like a t*at, most of the main action scenes have been shown ad nauseum in trailers or promotions and the 'cyber criminal' terrorist just doesn't really push my buttons (see also Die Hard 4).

Solid enough installation, but IMO it's time to freshen things up with a new Bond. 8/10

I enjoyed skyfall, it's not the best bond film but nor is it the worst by a long way.

To me the daniel craig bond is a restart of the whole franchise, we have seen how he got his licence to kill, how he got a DB5, why he is how he is women, the reintroduction of M as a man, and introduction of Q and moneypenny. To me this opens up possibility of remaking some of the classic bond films eg goldfinger, man with the golden gun etc which had good stories which could be easily updated.

1 thing i didn't like was the DB5, why did it have the gadgets when it was Q that fitted them. Although it was probably done for nostalga for the 50th anniversary.

Skyfall- poor scenes, some dubious editing, terrible 'doubles' for the stunts. Lots of errors in the film & a transparent plot. A poor mixture of comedy & ideas ripped from other, more successful films. Very disappointing - the only thing saving it was the quality of the villan. Not worth the time watching it - Spend your time watching Ghost protocol. 4/10

Taken 2 ... as good as the 1st

Never as good as the 1st.

Just watched Lawless with Shia Lebouf. Pretty good film about the infamous moonshine and bootlegging. Some graphic scenes, pretty good acting from all the cast. Real shame Gary Oldman only has a small part to play. Occasionally feels a bit long winded but generally a good evenings viewing with popcorn. 7.5/10

Spring Breakers - 9/10

I will go out on a limb and say this is NOT the type of film that you guys will like. I think marketing will play a part in this - particularly if you think this film looks like American Pie with 4 hot girls who carry guns. It isn't. I can also confirm that a few girls left the cinema - possibly due to the amount of boobs and sex.

This film is gritty, fun, almost hallucinating in terms of how it is shot.. Loads of flashbacks, forwards, and present day shots mixed in to tell the story of 4 girls who go on spring break and fall into the wrong crowd. James Franco steals the show with his creepy / awkward but hilarious portrayal of 'Alien', a white guy raised in a black community who is a drug lord / criminal and saves the girls from prison.

This is not for a mainstream crowd but I would recommend it as a watch if you're into the whole idea of escapism (the main theme for the girls going on spring break) and a "fantasy" view of crime/badassery

Oblivion - 8.5/10

I went in with fairly low expectations but this turned out to be a really great sci-fi. Its hard to discuss the plot without spoiling it, but if you're not impressed by the trailer, I would still recommend you go watch.
