MarkyMark
Surely if you can afford to buy a new porsche, then if you got a second hand one you would still be able to finish the project. A few people would like to see you finish it

Stu
I'd either be looking at a 996 Turbo or a brand new Cayman, depending if I can get fit enough by the time i've got the cash! I'm also looking at one of these..... http://i3.tinypic.com/6tzzk1v.jpg So spanking best part of 10k on an Escort isn't really floating my boat at the moment.... if all those people who really want to see it happen, an old lady will be round soon with the donation box........ Stu
It's not abandoned, it's just changed. I'm still throwing all the parts on, just not a fire-breathing monster engine.

Harvez
Just read from pages 20 onwards i think What is it you do for a living Stu? You'd be the biggest mug in the world if you wasted the cash on a Escort, take it from a guy who spent way over 10,000 on a escort before, is it fun? Yes ... Would i do it again? NO ... Do i regret it? Looking at other cars i could of brought, YES ... I garentee the majority of people saying ' do the escort ' have never blown alot of money at one before to know the regrets. Im sure Lee will back me up on this one A Escort is an escort, it will always only ever be a escort, you may have a 'special' escort, but it is only a Escort. Buy a real car, something that not only says you've made it in life, but also provides you alot more enjoyment then any sup'd up escort could give you. Put a escort on with ure final spec on track against say a Porsche turbo? The porsche will eat it, then imagine yourself pulling up to work, or outside a restuarant, porsche wins again. Relabilitie? Porsche. Im not just saying porsche wins etc, any sports car designed in life purely to be a sports car, is gonna win pretty much hands down everytime! but then on the other hand i know how the dream goes of building a slow car into a fast car, as im about to throw more cash towards a big powered supra! but i have my reasons for doing that apposed to buying something like say a M3 or Exige .Just another point before i shut up, my escort was quick yes, i beat most jap cars, but if any of the jap cars i went head to head with had any modifications, id loose. Lee R
Im sure Lee will back me up on this one you are correct my friend. In everything you say. To say I 'regret' is quite strong, because the car gave me some of the best years of my life, living the 'EVO' life Wouldn't do it again though. Stu
Harvez, well i've done the big escort spend before on my last one, so it's nothing new to me! I could afford to do it, and sure it'd be a waste of money (hence the sub-title of this thread ).. but it would be fun and rediculously fast.... but... Porsche... yes. Stu
Just a slight update... Been working on rebuilding the 2L I bought.. stripped it all down last weekend, cleaned everything and today assembled the bottom end.. unfortunately the bores are quite worn and out of tolerance but i'm just going to go with it, it's only a runabout.. it's quite offensive spending a few hundred quid on stuff to rebuild it knowing it's not right, but the only other option is to buy another unknown engine and potentially have to do the same again.. Oh well
