the rollercoaster ride starts again

Recommended Posts

well after a very fiddly afternoon of guesswork and careful thought I managed to install the main unit of the alarm and wire it up with its ultrsonics and shock/vibration sensors working before surrendering for the day when the light got too bad.

tomorrow Ill wire the remaining main alarm features in, remote locking, auto locking, ignition shut-off, starter imobilizer and all the access point sensors.

If I manage to sort all that without it pissing it down Ill wire in the full closure unit aswell hopefully.

on a side note...........

my arse is it a 120dB, more like feckin 300dB <wiggles finger in ear in a attempt to re-establish his hearing>

Big shame. There's already a matt black MK5b floating about one on forum, think he was on here at one point.

Think it will ruin it myself :(

body works got to many years of minor dings and scrapes which tho often go un-noticed by the casual observer I know are there and prey mercilessly on my psyche.

if it was that alone Id struggle through and pull out dents or fill them before patching the paintwork were needed but...

I like to know every ding and scratch on my motor and as such have scrutinized the entire bodywork which only led to the discovery of numerous shoddy amatuerish repairs hidden beneath layers of paint left right and centre which I would only be satisfied with stripping back and properly repairing myself....which would result in the need for a full respray ultimatly (there numerous and wide spread).

My logic is this therefore, I strip back the paintwork and prep the lot, repairing were needed (which would be my course no matter the end result paint scheme is) then once satisfied (which might take a while cos Im a fickle c*nt) Ill body coat the entire thing in satin finish flat black (which despite your example Ive held the wish to do for many years now).

The benefits of this are twofold,

1. I like it and keep it flat black

.

or

2. I dont like it or eventually bore of it and have a metalic flake lacquer made up and coat over the flat black finish for a more or less one off twist on the Ash Black look.

its a win win win situation imo, as the original flat black can be done entirely by myself without the need for a closed atmosphere booth (my farm yard lock-up will surfice), which Id need eventually for me to get a good finish on a gloss coat or lacquer.

Paint turned up a couple of days ago and as requested its the military grade satin finish black I wanted.

If it can survive flying at Mach1 all over a English electric Canberra spy plane it'll be just fine on my escort :pancake:

however due to its synthetic base I didnt want to assume the thinning mix would be similiar to celulose and decided to drag my ST rear bumper out the back shed as a test subject....

How it started out

After a few test coats

finish improved as I went along but Im still not 100% happy with the finish 50/50 paint/thinner mix.

Might knock is up to a 30/70 paint/thinner mix and see how it layers tomorrow.
