Just back from picking up my car after it's replacement hub, bearing and ABS ring. It's drives better now and there's no knocking but they reported that the o/s track rod end has excessive movement and the ABS kicking in is being caused by a split ring (oooh errrr) on the n/s/f, so it'll be back in soon enough :(

Another ring has been ordered and I'll liaise with them whether it's easier to change the whole track rod rather than just the end which will likely be ceased on.

The good news is that they washed the car though.

Love it when someone else cleans my car.

You may remember this from November:

I went out to change the brakes today since the weather is alright here.

Upon closer inspection the pads still have 2-3mm of meat left on them and the discs are in good condition. Being a tight Scotsman and wanting to get my money's worth out of the current discs/pads I put the wheel back on and will revisit the situation in the new year.

Well, after both Kwik-Fit (when it was in for tyres) and Bavaria (in for hub) telling me I needed front brakes as a matter of urgency, I decided it might be time to revisit the situation

Chew on some pics, mofos!

I started with this:

I think I got my money's worth out of them :innocent:

Gone!

POW!

It always amazes me the difference you feel with new brakes. Mine were excellent before, I thought, but these just about put me through the windscreen at the first few stops, lol.

Both calipers are shagged. The dust seals are both torn and a previous owners attempt at painting them is a nonsense and him painting the contact parts of the carrier is probably the reason for a pad being partially seized on the drivers side. Hopefully my wire brush has sorted that

In other news I caught up with my Polish mechanic friend over a few beers last night and discussed the options for the new engine. He reckons we could get it into the BMW dealership he works at one weekend and have the engine swapped in a day, then tow or trailer it back to mine for the wiring. That'd be mega awesome.

Contemplating debading the car as a lot of people won't actually know it' an Audi without the logo.

I'm edging towards 'no' just now but am interested to hear other folks thoughts.

Sorry to requote a picture but as obnoxious as that car looks, I love it, specially the massive intercooler and pipes.

It looks photoshopped, but that's an RS2 bumper, which is £300 used, so mine won't be rocking that. I'll have an intercooler cut out on a standard V6/S2 bumper, but it's mainly the grille I'm wondering about.

I like it all, just mentioning special enjoyment of the big pipes.
