shawdreamer
didnt get upto much today barring a rumage in the local yards for my elusive replacement gearbox , did however take the oportunity to give the new'un a quick wash down so I could get a better look at the paintworks state... all together Ive seen alot worse general paintwork on motors Ive bought and Ive allways been able to either restore it or respray it, given its age the paints pretty solid and lacking in the usual chips and serious scratches (barring phils attempt at panel spraying on the passenger rear panel....its ok phil....least ya gave it a go )http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19537.jpg with the general dust and grime now gone it was easy to pick out what few serious scratches and blemishes there was, some of the worst I could find....http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19538.jpghttp://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19539.jpg decided to give T-cuts "metallic&pearlescent" cutting liquid another chance after finding it lacking when I used it on the Si, it didnt do to bad Id say....http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19540.jpg(yes I have noted the minor bubbling on the rear arches ) satisfied I could breathe life back into the paintwork with a bit of elbow work I turned my attention to the mysteriously unco-operative drivers window, off came the interior panel so I could find out what was going on inside the door (can hear the motor running when the window lowering button is depressed but the window remains solidly in place) didnt take much digging to figure out what was the cause http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19541.jpghttp://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19542.jpgyep thats right...thats the window runners cable....somehow I dont think thats were its supposed to go? but wait....Its not finished yet....it gets better!....http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19543.jpguh-huh ya not wrong....thats the windows lecky motor half arsed hanging onto the inside of the door by just one loose boltTHEN just as you'd expect it to be the end of it....I took the motor out with the hope in mind of re-threading the cable into the motors housing and found it was erm....missing one or two parts....http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19544.jpg oh well guess Ill swipe one off a scrapper when I go and get my gearbox couldnt do much else with it today so just before I packed it in I quickly swapped this.....http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19545.jpgfor a spare one of these Ive had in the shed for a while.....http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19546.jpg that was it for work on the motor today so I started having a good root round the car... http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19547.jpgdo I wanna know were that relay is from or am I better of ignorant? http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/19548.jpgits no wonder ya ill eatin that crap phil! smithyandco
I did my best on the paint job... better than the bare metal I was faced with after the previous owners mrs put pain stripper down it! That motor (itself) works fine... I was trying to find the bits for it at local scrappies... The cable mech managed to damage the pulley somehow before I got it... I have got some of the motor parts somewhere... The relay is a spare indicator relay... I think there is a spare single speed intermitant wiper relay in somewhere in the car... The sour cream and red onion things are nice!! Can't find another pack anywhere! Ah well... it's looking good so far! I'll probably end up buying it back off you when your bored... smithyandco
previous owner add the lecky windows and wiring? No idea to be honest... I didn't fit them so they are either an optional extra when the car was new or fitted by the previous owner. Most of it looked pretty good to me so I'd guess at an optional extra as the previous owner was no mechanic! But it is a Mistral Special Edition...

But it is a Mistral Special Edition... nar trust me lad. it aint no optional extra (I couldnt resist checking the wiring over) defo a diy jobbie, not to badly executed wiring wise, except for choosing the cigerette lighter as a 12v feed for the motors and scotch blocking it into the wires Ill strip out the parts I aint happy with but likely keep the majority of the homemade Loom and just give it a more solid fused feed directly to the fusebox ....maybe add a couple of one touch relays later on Edited May 7, 2009 by shawdreamer

Sure it builds your arms up more than a 1 hour gym work out when parking in Tesco but the feel and feedback is sooo much better when out on the open road... True kart handling!Plus it's one less thing to go wrong! Don't think I'd ever buy an Escort with powersteering
