Let the Pee taking commence

Averaged 38.1 mpg for the test drive and drive home (where I may have gone a teensy bit north of speed limit) with the aircon on, lights on and wipers. Not bad for a 2.9 litre 6 cylinder Automatic nearly 2 tonne estate car with a clogged fuel filter and filthy air filter.

Nice car, but only Stevemo could mention "lights and wipers" as an explanation as to why the economy was poor.

As Stu said watch that autobox, if i were you i'd get the gearbox flushed and fresh oil put in straight away.

any electrical device is a load that will affect economy ;) Lights and wipers will affect it but by the tiniest amount, I darent put a number on it you'd have to speak to mythbusters but i do a good job of getting 52MPG out of my car as an average come rain or shine, day or night

on the forum I'm on they have said about the auto boxes and if its done over 100K its too late to do oil change as it will accelerate gearbox death (not sure how that works) They say after 100k there will be clumps of sludge around the box which are stuck and if you change the oil it may dislodge it and then it may block something important and break your box, which is why i advised a flush along with the change, change the oil, run it around for 20 minutes and change the oil again..I noticed a definate improvement after changing the oil on my 540

thank you craig - I will do that as I want this to last a while :)

I want this to last a while :)

sell it to now then.

Eh!?

typically the pattern follows this route....

he buys car

he claims car is workhorse and will last

he starts his version of "modding" despite it being a workhorse

he wrecks car or its involved in a crash which is by no means his fault in any form or fashion

he's killed car

historically this chain of events seems to only take 3-4 months.

therefore logically speaking if he wants this car to "last" he should get it as far away from himself and his "modding" as possible as soon as possible.

fitted new bonnet embelem today since old one only said BM

also ebay is addictive

just ordered error free LED bulbs for number plate lights, front fogs and front sidelights and a set of team heko wind deflectors such as I have on my mondeos (well never got round to on my diesel but have on my mk1 and mk2)

also the mk1 still needs passenger seat fitting, brakes seeing to, alloys fitted and MOT before selling, mk3 will be seen to first as I want to keep the recaros for my ST so fitting the ST TDCI seats, sorting PAS leak and boost issue (requires re-fitment of a pipe that was bodged in past - not by me). I have already de-stickered it and will give it a good clean up before ebay. problem is tax runs out end of this month, I cant re-tax it due to no longer insured and with olympics going on people arent really looking to buy cars so will see what happens but £700 takes that. Lowest for mk1 will be £850 as I would like it sold so I can get drive back to crack on with ST

£700 for Y reg Zetec with quite a few issues (more than you're aware of most probably), sketchy history and no tax. Hmm. You just said you've been on ebay today... Do you ever bother to check the price levels ?

£750 for 04 plate with faulty injectors (£250 in my book - done it before), still driving, etc, it has been listed for a week - nobody bothered to bid. Not even me. And I buy some rubbish.

You know these days when you can pick up a shitty 06 plate for £800... What mental patient is gonna spend same money on 5 years older car ?

I've sold my 51 plate this month for £950 after being listed for quite a while (didn't really want to sell it, just testing) and it was in near perfect condition with new turbo, new tyres, 11 months MOT and 5 months tax.

If anybody offers you more than £500 I can recommend a specialist to help them with their learning issues...
