Stu
Most remappers will tell you they can improve fuel economy. Yeah right.

tomsy
If i were to go on a bmw forum start a thread about my escort and include elements of my personal life would i get abuse on it like steve does here, im guessing i probably would because the majority of people go on there because of an interest in bmw's not escorts, just like the majority of people on here would prefer to read about escorts. stevmo3691
majority of people on here dont seem to have escorts anymore anyway.... Yes I will be getting it remapped and with diesels nearly any performance modification increases economy.adding E60 530D turbo, 535D injectors, de-cat, exhaust system and remap sees these over 260bhp, 6-700NM torque and better on fuel - draw back being auto box will get eaten by that much torque so i'm not doing that. I will possibly do de-cat and I will do remap but the rest i'll leave as a straight through exhaust would just make it unpleasent IMO - already makes a really nice meaty growl - surprising when you remember it runs on the black pump. Other engine related things I will do is check to see if I have the IM swirl flaps and if so, remove them and fit blank plates as like early duratec these come off and kill engines and look to do a complete EGR removal like I have on the mondeo

More power = more fuel. Engines already pretty much run as lean as they can on cruise for best economy.

scottybo
i dont think you can say categorically that more power = more fuel my old hcs power fez would do about 35-40 to a gallon, the same as my escort which is zetec powered and we all know the difference in power between those 2 engines

You could technically 'unleash' tiny amounts of power with the same amount of fuel by improving the BSFC of an engine. Good luck with that though. And good luck using two completely different engines as an argument about fuel/power. Edited July 18, 2012 by Stu

stoo2000
I wonder how long it'll take stevemomo to get outcast on the BMW forum(s) he's joining and C&P'ing this thread to. Perhaps the mentality is if you brute force the same junk across many different groups of people, eventually you'll find one that doesn't hate you. http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p89/adolftitler/stevmowtf.jpgAwesome, you took a shot of one of my IP.Board apps
Craig855S
Averaged 38.1 mpg for the test drive and drive home (where I may have gone a teensy bit north of speed limit) with the aircon on, lights on and wipers. Not bad for a 2.9 litre 6 cylinder Automatic nearly 2 tonne estate car with a clogged fuel filter and filthy air filter. Nice car, but only Stevemo could mention "lights and wipers" as an explanation as to why the economy was poor. As Stu said watch that autobox, if i were you i'd get the gearbox flushed and fresh oil put in straight away.

As Stu said watch that autobox, if i were you i'd get the gearbox flushed and fresh oil put in straight away.any electrical device is a load that will affect economy Lights and wipers will affect it but by the tiniest amount, I darent put a number on it you'd have to speak to mythbusters but i do a good job of getting 52MPG out of my car as an average come rain or shine, day or night on the forum I'm on they have said about the auto boxes and if its done over 100K its too late to do oil change as it will accelerate gearbox death (not sure how that works) They say after 100k there will be clumps of sludge around the box which are stuck and if you change the oil it may dislodge it and then it may block something important and break your box, which is why i advised a flush along with the change, change the oil, run it around for 20 minutes and change the oil again..I noticed a definate improvement after changing the oil on my
