F1ACK
4 years of building, 4 months to destroy it! Done a proper job of crashing the MR355, was following a Rover onto a motorway slip road when for some unknown reason he decided to slam his brakes on. It was very wet and a bit icey at the time, I swerved to avoid him, lost the back end, snaked up the slip road for a fair distance, lost it completely and spun. First the front of the car hit the crash barrier then the back ploughed into it hard. Ended up sideways across the slip road, engine cut out, with the front bumper ripped off and much of the back missing, somehow managed to miss all the other cars around me. Got the front bumper reattached and managed to get it home. The front is just bodywork damage, although it will need a new wing, front section and repairs to the bumper, headlights, bonnet and passenger wing. The back wheel has also taken a big knock so it is no longer pointing foward, the back drivers side has been pushed right in, the engine cover has split in 2 and no longer shuts due to the rear panel being bent over, all but 1 rear light has been smashed, the exhaust was ripped off, but both doors are fine! Not a lot else to say but, OPPS! http://modworld.co.uk/images/other/mr355/crash1.jpghttp://modworld.co.uk/images/other/mr355/crash2.jpghttp://modworld.co.uk/images/other/mr355/crash3.jpg The repair has been quoted at just over £7,000 to replace the rear end and much of the front, repair the cars underbody, straighten out what ever is bent behind the rear wheel and give it a full respray. The cars value has been estimated around £17,000 so the insurance has approved the repair. A truck arrived early this morning to take the car 250 miles to be repaired. It's lucky the back is being replaced as by the time it had been pulled onto the truck it had been completely ripped apart by the winch cable and the front bumper had been scuffed into the road. I shall be collecting it myself! http://modworld.co.uk/images/other/mr355/crash4.jpghttp://modworld.co.uk/images/other/mr355/crash5.jpghttp://modworld.co.uk/images/other/mr355/crash6.jpg

caled
erm, if you had hit him, wouldn't it have still been your fault for not keeping a safe distance back? Theway I have always understood it is that if you are hit from behind, pretty much no matter what you do, its their fault?
BIG STU
only way he could claim off the rover was if anyone witness the rover slamming on the brakes for no reason thus causing danger the people following him.....but he should have still kept a safe distance gutted for you , did enjoy watching the progress of the build hope its good as new when returned to you Edited February 1, 2008 by BIG STU
F1ACK
It's coming off my insurance, I admitted responsibility as I should have left a big enough gap to safely stop. Not sure why on this occasion I was unable to catch the back. Forgot to say I was unhurt (usual cuts and bruises), I was glad to hit a crash barrier rather than a tree or something, if you are going to crash I recommend a crash barrier. Infact if hit hadn't been there I would have been in the sea I did consider fixing it myself, infact the insurance company first offer was to give me £5,600 in a cash in lue settlement to sort the car out myself. I think it would probably take another 2 years for me to get it back on the road, and I really couldn't face stripping it all down and practically starting again. The repairer has said they expect the repairs to take 5-6 weeks. I will also probably pay for some extra work to be done as well, a full leather retrim and a ferrari gearbox h-gate fitting. Its the responsiblity of the person behind to be at a distance to respond to such action. This is by no means a dig as i did just the same earlier in the year as some may remember & destroyed my own hard work.Really gutted for you at this as i followed its progress looking forward to its final outing, i was hoping when i saw the title that it may be less damage but ouch!
