Let the Pee taking commence

Ok, people who need to move peoples seats to drive them - do you play with the height of the head restraint?, do you adjust the height of the lumbar support?

Might I ask why you are all taking the Pee out of the fact I had the gearbox fixed on a car I like and intend to keep?

I really dont get why this is the only site where I get these replies. Post this anywhere else and I get kind words yet on here I get ridiculed for not wanting a garage who have taken £1740 of my money (well my dads atm) and damaged my car, used my fuel and provided terrible customer service. If this was anyone else on this forum you would be on their side so why are you all on the garages side? Ok so they moved the seat to test drive the car, not the end of the world, just annoying with the number of adjustments they did.

wasnt hitting the tunnel at all and wasnt doing that on test drive. there were no leaks visible when purchased.

Oh really ?

Problem is I need to replace engine mounts (can rock the engine with my finger) and gearbox mounts (when in reverse the gearbox is banging against the car from where engine cants over and on big bumps you can feel it hit the underside of the car)

at present I have a boost issue in that its not actually boosting till about 2500 so in stop start traffic the turbo isnt doing anything meaning the engine is working harder, hence worse economy.

As long as you're happy with that explanation, why bother with logic and science ?

No worse than my mondeo tddi was doing

Your TDDi had appalling fuel consumption.

Inchcape Ford Bracknell

OK, thanks for the warning.

You're not gonna keep it. Electrical issues are gonna get worse and worse. I got rid of one when I couldn't adjust xenon beam height anymore, open the electrical boot, persuade front right indicator to stop sticking, get the rear (5th) window to shut 100% of the time instead of draining battery all night and when traction control went on strike I had about enough.

What I really love above all else though is that every time I drove my mondeo I was like 'whats that? will I make it? oh g-d whats that gonna cost me' and despite my cars current rough idle and sounding like a canal boat in reverse it still feels like if there was a nuclear war it would protect me and keep running

I wonder how long this lasted...

1) Nobody is taking garages side in anything but a petty seat adjustment issue.

2) Damaged your car ? Shady service ? We have something called Trading standards, don't we ? Threatening usually works wonders.

3) Spending £1740 on a gearbox issue in almost ANY road car is bit... I don't know really. Yesterday I've seen a 61 plate W212 E350 Sport in a shop because the previous owner refused to pay a £2500 repair. Mumbling something along the line that he isn't crazy...

I can understand you got bit over your head thanks to a bad garage and bad planning....

4) Just keep pestering them until everything is just like you want it. Accept no less. Why should you ?

BTW What about a warranty ?

Nice reply in general and I think everyone bar one person reading this thread would agree with it all, but I thought the above was stop on.

Either the OP genuinely lives in la-la land and believes what he and the forum yes-men are saying, or he's realised he's made a cnut of things by borrowing money to pay for a £2k repair on a £2k car that still has quite serious issues, and now it's the garages(/everyone elses (sound familiar?) fault.

I mean, moaning that they've moved a headrest and spent £20 on fuel to test a rebuilt gearbox?! Jesus Christ. I'd be highly suspicious if I got a car back from a gearbox replacement and it had barely done any mileage.

Out of interest, why not a 2nd hand box with a 6 month warranty and then pay to get it installed. Could have had one in for less than a grand

Has anyone else got deja vu?

I really dont get why this is the only site where I get these replies.

A few possible reasons:

1) The other sites you go on are potentially full of equally clueless morons

2) The other sites you go on are specifically for the vehicle you own, hence owners will validate any irrational spending behaviour on their particular marque

3) You've set yourself up a fall many times on here, you could almost write a book about it "The book of fail"

It's nothing personal. It's just reaction to what YOU tell us. People only comment on behaviour and scenarios which you describe to us.

Personally I feel sorry for your old man. You come across as a total loose cannon and now you're putting him out of pocket with your behaviour too.

i'm gonna go fairly easy on you :)

I don't think you are particually silly paying what you did to have the box done, even more so assuming your loan from your dad is flexible and interest free. I'm assuming from everything i've ever read and from pictures that your Dad isn't really gonna 'miss' it....

I'm in a similar position where I have a Mondeo TDCi. I did all the usual checks in regards to the DMF. 3 days into ownership the starter failed due to the DMF starting to fall apart! I'm currently just living with it. (It starts 9 times out of 10, although I appreciate every time it doesnt start i'm knackering a new starter). The car is currently worth about £2k. It owes me £2.5k. Do I pay the £700 to fix it? Yes! Because if I don't, I sell it for £500 if i'm lucky, then have to find another £2k to replace it with something else that may cause me trouble. If I fix it, it's done!!!

I too would be a bit pissed off with the garages service for the reasons you have given, having been in a similar situation myself when a VW specialist (when I had my Golf GTi) used my car to go home at night rather than leave it looked up in the secure unit.

In summary....

1. You should have done what Sid suggested. A decent warranteed 2nd hand box.

2. You should have bought a van in the first place you daft herbert!

3. Think before you type. It might make all the diiference.

and just to add, it drives me fcuking mental when my girlfriend drives my Mondeo and doesn't put the seat back to how she found it :pancake: :vangry:

nothing wrong with sucking tit ;)

reason for not getting second hand box is no idea when that would then fail and needed torque converter replacing as well.

anyway going back to garage tomorrow

To be constructive for once...

This time when they say they will repair it make sure you ask what's entailed in testing the box once fixed, least this way you'll have no surprises when you get it back.

You gotto get a van now surely for work, these workhorse vehicles have been a right nightmare, alot less to go wrong on a half decent van and you really rely on transport for the jobs that you do.

I'd be surprised if Dominos let an owner driver deliver in a van. I know when I worked for them for a few weeks years ago that the guy came out to inspect my silver E36 and made a face about it having a bit of surface rust.

Anyway, stevmo, how did you know the gearbox was knackered in the fist place? I hope it wasn't the same error......
